Choose a charger that explicitly supports the battery’s chemistry and size. Then check that it can charge the number of cells you need at once. A battery fitting in a slot does not prove the charger is compatible.
Start with the battery label
Read the markings on the battery and the charger or its manual. Identify the battery chemistry—such as nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) or nickel-cadmium (NiCd)—and its size, such as AA or AAA. Check for any series or model restrictions, then choose a charger whose instructions explicitly support that combination.
For common rechargeable AA or AAA NiMH cells, look for a charger specified for NiMH cells of those sizes. Confirm the exact model’s instructions before using it; compatibility can vary by product specifications, size, and series. See Panasonic’s battery-use guide and its charger compatibility guidance.
Check the charger’s capacity and features
Once chemistry and size match, consider how you will use the charger. Compare how many cells it can charge at once and whether it accepts AA, AAA, or both. Panasonic also suggests weighing features such as a charge-complete display and faster charging against your intended use; neither feature is essential for everyone.

- POWEROWL smart charger passed US safety certification comes with chip control, when the battery is fully charged, it will automatically stop charging, and with LED indicator. (NOTE) only compatible with NiMH or NiCD AA and AAA rechargeable batteries.
- Scientific and reasonable battery charging position design, high quality materials effectively protect the battery from normal charging
- Charge any number of AA AAA rechargeable batteries to make your charging easier. It is recommended to use a 5V/2A plug.
- With a USB input interface, you can use a laptop, car charger, mobile phone charger, etc. to charge the battery
- AA AAA batteries charger uses trickle charge to extend battery life and charge up to 99%. Please read the instruction manual carefully before use.
- Chemistry support: The charger instructions name the battery chemistry you use.
- Cell size: It supports the required sizes, such as AA or AAA.
- Charging capacity: It handles the number of cells you need to charge together.
- Useful extras: Consider a completion indicator or faster charging if it suits your routine.
- Exact model and power supply: Check any model restrictions and whether the required power adapter is included.
If compatibility is unclear, check the exact battery and charger manuals or the manufacturers’ compatibility information. Do not assume that support for one model or product series applies to another.
Can you use a NiCd charger for NiMH batteries?
Not unless the charger’s instructions explicitly say it supports NiMH. NiMH and NiCd batteries can have different charging requirements; Panasonic specifically warns against charging NiMH cells with a NiCd-only charger. Check the charger’s exact model documentation rather than relying on the brand or the fact that the battery fits. Panasonic’s NiMH/NiCd charger FAQ addresses this specific mismatch.

- Save Time & Charge More - Bonai AA AAA battery charger 16 bay for NiMH rechargeable batteries can charge any quantity in any slot. Single, double or triple ones can be charged, and not necessary to put them in neighboring slots. Besides, you can also mix charge AA and AAA batteries, as long as they are NiMH batteries
- Helpful LED Indicators - When you first plug it in, the LED lights run through a cycle then turn solid green on all empty ports to indicate power to each port. When you insert a battery to charge, the light will turn solid red, only on the port(s) containing the battery, to indicate the battery is charging. The light turns solid green when charging is complete. If a defective battery has been inserted, red light flashes
- Charging with Convenience- Attached with a regular AC power cord, without power brick, it can compatible with a wide range of voltage from 110V to 240V and input current is 0.5A(max.). Output voltage is 1.4V(DC) and current range 250-500mA. The more batteries you charge, the longer the time spend. *NOTE: It can not charge alkaline nor lithium battery
- Safe & Smart Battery Charger - This NiMH battery charger provides protection on overcharging, overvoltage, overcurrent, overheating, short-circuit and reverse-polarity. It is normal that the aa battery charger becomes heated while charging, just don't cover anything on it and keep it in a well-ventilated place. It is also a silent charger and doesn't emit any buzz
- WARRANTY: Bonai 16-bay battery charger for AA AAA NiMH batteries has 24/7 customer service available, you can rest assured to buy our battery charger and it has 12 months guarantee, if any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us
Never charge non-rechargeable batteries
Use a charger only with cells marked rechargeable and supported by that charger. Do not try to recharge ordinary alkaline, carbon-zinc, or primary lithium batteries. Manufacturers warn that charging non-rechargeable cells can cause leakage or rupture, with risks that may include fire or explosion. See Duracell’s FAQ and Panasonic Energy’s dry-battery FAQ.
Follow the charger’s own directions for polarity, cell placement, permitted combinations, charging duration, and when to remove the batteries. Do not apply one charger’s timing rule or safety features to another model. For example, an Energizer NiMH charger application guide gives this approximate formula for a fully discharged NiMH battery: battery capacity in mAh × 120% ÷ charge rate in mA = hours of charge. This is guidance from that Energizer guide for its charger family, not a universal charging rule; use your charger’s instructions instead. Energizer’s NiMH charger application guide.
