Choose AirTag (2nd generation) if you use a compatible iPhone or iPad and want Apple Find My integration with Precision Finding nearby. Consider Tile if your household uses Android, or mixes Android and iOS. The best fit depends first on the phones you use; Tile’s current model, price and specifications should be checked for your region before buying.

Which one should you buy?
Choose AirTag if you use Apple devices
AirTag (2nd generation) is the straightforward choice for someone already using a compatible Apple device and wanting a tracker integrated with Find My. Its nearby-finding features include Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband, and Apple says the newer model expands Precision Finding. Compatible Apple Watches can also use Precision Finding, subject to the stated device and software requirements.
AirTag requires an Apple Account and a supported iPhone or iPad. Apple’s surfaced support requirements list iPhone with iOS 26.2.1 or later, or iPad with iPadOS 26.1 or later; check Apple’s current regional specifications before purchase because feature availability and device compatibility can vary.
Consider Tile for Android or a mixed-phone household
Tile lists apps for both Android and iOS, making it a candidate when not everyone in the household uses Apple devices. Its model guide describes several shapes, including Pro, Mate, Slim and Sticker. Since the guide also includes historical models, verify the exact model currently sold where you live and whether its shape suits the item you want to track.

Tile’s app availability does not establish that every feature works identically on Android and iOS. Check the current app and model details for your phone before buying.
How finding works when an item is nearby or away
Nearby finding
AirTag uses Bluetooth for proximity finding and includes a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. Apple says AirTag (2nd generation) has expanded Precision Finding, a longer Bluetooth range and a louder speaker; these are Apple’s product claims, not independent comparative test results. Apple also says Precision Finding is available on Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, subject to requirements.

The official information cited here does not establish a current, model-specific Tile comparison for nearby range or an equivalent Precision Finding feature. There is no supported basis here for claiming that one brand has a particular numeric range advantage.
Finding an item that is no longer nearby
Apple describes Find My as a crowdsourced network: nearby Apple devices can detect a tracker’s Bluetooth signal and relay its approximate location to its owner. Apple’s developer overview describes the network as using “hundreds of millions of Apple devices around the world” and says its design includes end-to-end encryption; those are Apple’s descriptions, not an independent current count.

Tile’s model guide mentions Community Find and Last Place Seen. The official information cited here does not provide a comparable, current measure of Tile network coverage, so it cannot support a claim that either network is larger or more effective. In either case, a location update depends on the tracker being encountered by a compatible device in the relevant network.

AirTag’s size and attachment
Apple lists AirTag (2nd generation) at 31.9 mm in diameter, 8.0 mm high and 11.8 g. It is a round disc, so plan for a compatible holder or key ring if you need to attach it to keys or another item. Confirm that any accessory listing supports the second-generation AirTag.

AirTag’s replaceable battery and rating
Apple specifies a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell and an IP67 water- and dust-resistance rating for AirTag (2nd generation). Apple states the water-resistance condition as a maximum depth of 1 metre for up to 30 minutes under IEC 60529. These are AirTag specifications; do not assume they apply to Tile.
Check Tile by exact model
Tile’s model guide covers multiple form factors and historical entries, but the cited official information does not establish current-generation Tile battery life, water-resistance rating or other comparable durability specifications. Confirm those details on the listing and documentation for the exact Tile model available in your region.
