A “full-tower” label does not guarantee that a particular motherboard, graphics card, cooler, radiator, or power supply will fit. Before buying, compare the exact case specifications with the dimensions and layout of your planned build—including room for fans, plugs, cables, and the side panel.
What to check before buying a full-tower PC case
Start with a list of the parts and features you intend to use. Have the exact model specifications at hand, not just the component names. Check the case maker’s compatibility notes as well: advertised maximum clearances can depend on which fans, radiators, or drive cages are installed.
- Motherboard model and form factor
- GPU length, thickness, and power-connector direction
- CPU cooler height, or radiator dimensions and planned mounting position
- PSU dimensions and cable-routing needs
- Number and type of drives
- Planned fans and cooling layout
- Front ports and the motherboard headers needed to connect them
- Available room for the case and its delivery route into the room
Will your motherboard and GPU fit?
Confirm motherboard support
Check that the case supports your board’s exact form factor, then review any limits on board width or special back-connect layouts. Form-factor labels such as E-ATX do not establish compatibility with every board sold under that label; use the case manufacturer’s specific compatibility notes and dimensions.
Check GPU length, thickness, and cables
Compare the card’s dimensions with the case’s GPU clearance, but do not stop at length. Check card thickness or slot count, the direction its power connector faces, and whether there is enough room to route the power cable without pressing it against the side panel. Confirm whether the published GPU limit assumes that front fans, a radiator, or drive cages are removed or repositioned.

- Dual-Chamber Design: GT502 internals are divided into two chambers- the main chamber and rear chamber, allowing you to build clean and configure independent cooling zones for the CPU and GPU
- Versatile Graphic Card Mounting Options: Stand your graphics card up proud with an included vertical mount or slot it directly into the motherboard and banish sag with a bundled support bracket
- Tool-free Side Panels: Side panels can be removed simply by pressing a button hidden on the rear of the chassis
- Panoramic View with Tempered Glass: Tempered glass panels at the front and side provide a tactfully tinted view of the main chamber.
- Front Panel High-speed connectivity: USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, 2X USB 3.0, and RGB button
For example, Antec lists the 900’s maximum GPU length as 495 mm, but says it falls to 465 mm with front fans installed. MSI likewise advises buyers to check whether reaching a case’s maximum GPU compatibility requires adjusting fans or drive cages, and to account for connector orientation and cable routing. See Antec’s 900 specifications and MSI’s case-selection guidance.
Check cooler, radiator, and PSU clearances
CPU cooler and radiator
For an air cooler, compare its full height with the case’s stated CPU-cooler limit; leave room for the side panel and any relevant motherboard components. For liquid cooling, match the radiator’s dimensions and thickness to the case’s supported mount positions. Then account for the fans attached to the radiator and nearby components: a listed radiator length alone does not prove that a particular radiator-and-fan assembly will clear the motherboard, memory, or GPU.

Power supply and cable room
Check the PSU’s length against the case’s stated limit, and make sure there is space beside it for cables and any drive cage in that area. A PSU body that meets the maximum dimension may still make installation or cable routing awkward if the remaining space is tight.
Plan airflow, fans, and dust-filter maintenance
Treat cooling as a layout rather than a fan-count contest. Check the supported fan sizes and positions, radiator mounts, which fans are included, and where intake and exhaust air will move in your planned build. A large number of supported fans does not by itself establish cooling performance.

Look for filters at the intake locations and confirm that they can be reached and removed for cleaning. Filter placement and access affect routine maintenance, especially if the case will sit close to a wall or under a desk. MSI’s case checklist covers cooling, filters, I/O, storage, case size, and weight; use it alongside the chosen model’s specifications.
Verify drives, ports, and day-to-day usability
- Storage: Confirm the number and type of 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch mounts you need, including whether installing other hardware affects access to them.
- Front I/O: Check that the case’s USB and audio ports suit your needs, and verify that your motherboard has the matching headers to connect them.
- Expansion: Check the number of PCIe expansion slots against your cards and planned layout.
- Cable management: Review the room behind the motherboard tray and around the PSU, along with access for routing and securing cables.
- Access and upkeep: Consider how the panels come off and whether fans and filters can be reached for cleaning.
Measure the case against your room and desk
Compare the case’s external height, width, and depth with the actual space where it will sit. Also check the route it must take through doors, stairs, or other tight areas. Weight matters when moving a large chassis, and a glass-heavy design may suit different visual preferences than a mesh-forward one. Appearance alone does not establish thermal performance.
