The best video doorbell without a monthly subscription is the one whose free storage method fits your setup: eufy’s E340 has built-in 8GB storage, Tapo’s TD25 records to a separately purchased microSD card, and Aqara’s G4 stores footage in its indoor chime while also offering up to seven days of free event clips in the cloud. None is a universal winner; capacity, power, and smart-home compatibility differ by model.

How to choose a video doorbell without a monthly fee

“No subscription” can mean different things. A doorbell may record to memory inside the camera, a microSD card you provide, or an indoor chime or hub. Some models also offer a limited free cloud service. Before buying, check where recordings go, what hardware is included, and which recording and playback features work without a paid plan.

  • Built-in storage: The camera includes a fixed amount of memory, so you do not need to buy a card. Capacity is finite.
  • microSD storage: The doorbell records to a removable card. Check the maximum supported capacity and whether a card is included.
  • Chime or hub storage: Recordings are stored on a separate indoor device, which must be installed and kept available.
  • Free cloud clips: A free cloud allowance may be limited by retention time or event type. It is not the same as unlimited local recording.

The models below are supported by manufacturer product details or, for the Reolink alternative, a cited editorial roundup. Product specifications and regional bundles can change; verify the exact version and included accessories before purchase.

Which doorbell is the best fit?

Choose eufy E340 for built-in storage and a dual-camera view

The E340 is a straightforward option if you want local recording without buying a memory card: eufy lists 8GB of built-in storage and says the model has no subscription fee. Its dual cameras and 2K video are listed on the manufacturer page. The trade-off is that the storage capacity is fixed rather than expandable by a card, based on the cited product information.

It supports wired or battery installation. For battery use, eufy describes the pack as removable and gives a five-hour charge time. eufy lists Alexa and Google voice assistant support; confirm that the particular commands or automations you need work with your setup.

Choose Tapo TD25 if you want expandable microSD storage

TP-Link describes free AI alerts for people, packages, and vehicles, and lists both battery and hardwired power plus an included chime. The product page lists Google Home and Alexa. Alert availability does not by itself establish that every recording, playback, or integration feature is available without a plan, so check the current app and model details for the workflow you depend on.

Choose Aqara G4 if you want chime storage or Apple Home compatibility

The G4 stores local microSD footage in its indoor chime rather than in the doorbell itself. Aqara also advertises up to seven days of free event-based cloud clips. Treat those as two distinct storage options: the local recordings use the chime, while the cloud offer is limited to event clips and a stated retention window.

Aqara lists 1080p video, a 162° field of view, Apple Home, Alexa, and Google Home. It can use a six-battery pack or 12–24V AC/DC wiring. Aqara’s product page says, “Save approximately $60 annually” through its free cloud storage offer; that is the manufacturer’s comparison claim, not an independently established savings figure.

Consider Tapo D225 after checking the exact bundle

The D225 is another microSD option, with support up to 512GB and optional paid Tapo Care cloud storage. Tapo describes its AI detection alerts as free. The cited product page does not settle whether a particular regional package includes a card or chime, so check the listing rather than assuming the TD25 bundle details apply.

Investigate Reolink if you want another local-storage alternative

TechRadar’s February 2026 roundup describes a Reolink battery video doorbell recording to internal microSD, with cloud storage optional, and reports Alexa and Google Home support. That is an editorial description rather than a current manufacturer specification; confirm the exact model and configuration on the product listing before deciding. Check power, storage, and integrations before ordering

  1. Match the power method to your entrance. Verify whether you can wire the doorbell and whether the model supports battery use. Aqara specifies 12–24V AC/DC wiring or a six-battery pack; eufy and Tapo list wired and battery setups.
  2. Confirm what is in the box. The Tapo TD25 includes a chime but not the microSD card. Aqara places local storage in its indoor chime. For D225 and other regional packages, verify card and chime inclusion on the exact listing.
  3. Check the kind of footage you need. Aqara explicitly describes up to seven days of free event-based cloud clips. Local storage claims for eufy and Tapo do not, by themselves, state retention duration or how much footage fits in practice.
  4. Verify ecosystem functions, not just logos. eufy and TD25 list Alexa and Google support; Aqara lists Apple Home as well as Alexa and Google Home. Compatibility badges do not prove that alerts, live view, playback, or automations behave identically on every platform.
  5. Review the current regional product page. Specifications, app support, and bundled accessories may vary by region or change over time. Start with the manufacturer links in the comparison table.

What independent roundups say—and what they do not establish

Consumer Reports’ search result for its roundup, updated August 7, 2026, names Lorex, Tapo, and Eufy as tested options without required video-storage subscriptions. The full article was not accessible, so that summary does not establish which models it recommends or how they compare. Consumer Reports roundup.

Tom’s Guide’s 2026 roundup names the Eufy Video Doorbell Dual as its best no-subscription doorbell and reports local storage with no subscription fees. That editorial judgment is about the named model, not a guarantee for every Eufy doorbell. Tom’s Guide roundup.

These recommendations use different products and evaluation criteria, so they do not establish a single tested winner across all the models in this guide. Choose based on the storage arrangement and integrations you will actually use.
