To enable DLSS, open a supported game’s graphics, video, or upscaling settings, choose the DLSS feature you want, and select one of the modes the game offers. To turn it off, return to that menu and choose Off, Native, or a non-DLSS option. Menu names and available features vary by game.

Enable DLSS in a game’s settings

  1. Launch the game and open Settings or Options.
  2. Look under Graphics, Video, Display, or a dedicated upscaling section. The exact menu path is game-specific.
  3. Choose the DLSS feature you want to use. If the game offers a mode such as Quality, Balanced, or Performance, select the one you prefer.
  4. Apply the change. Restart or reload the game only if it prompts you to do so.

NVIDIA says that games with native DLSS support usually provide settings for enabling the available DLSS technologies in the game itself, without a separate system-level setup: NVIDIA’s DLSS override guide.

Turn DLSS off

Return to the game’s graphics or upscaling settings and select Off, Native, or another non-DLSS option if available. Check each DLSS feature separately: a game may provide distinct controls for Super Resolution, Frame Generation, or Ray Reconstruction, so turning one off does not necessarily turn off the others.

Know which DLSS control you’re changing

DLSS is a group of technologies, not one universal switch. A game may expose only some of these options, and the labels depend on the title and its engine.

GIGABYTE Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming OC 16G Graphics Card, PCIe 5.0, 16GB GDDR6, GV-R9070XTGAMING OC-16GD Video Card

  • WINDFORCE Cooling System
  • Hawk Fan
  • Server-grade Thermal Conductive Gel
  • RGB Lighting
  • Super Resolution: Upscales a lower-resolution image. Where modes are available, Quality, Balanced, and Performance represent different scaling choices.
  • Frame Generation: A separate feature that generates additional frames; it may have its own in-game toggle.
  • Ray Reconstruction: A separate option for supported games and rendering features.
  • DLAA: Uses DLSS technology for anti-aliasing at native resolution rather than upscaling from a lower input resolution.

NVIDIA’s published scaling example lists input resolutions of 67% for Super Resolution Quality, 50% for Performance, and 33% for Ultra Performance, compared with 100% for DLAA. These are NVIDIA’s example values, not settings guaranteed to appear in every game. See NVIDIA’s guide for context.

Use an NVIDIA app override instead

The NVIDIA app provides driver-level DLSS overrides for compatible games. These controls are separate from the game’s own settings; some overrides apply only when the related feature, such as Super Resolution or Frame Generation, is enabled in the game.

  1. Open the NVIDIA app and select Graphics.
  2. Choose Global Settings to configure supported titles globally, or open Program Settings and select a game to configure it individually.
  3. Open Driver Settings and change the relevant DLSS Override option.
  4. Launch the game and check its own settings if the override does not take effect; the matching in-game feature may need to be enabled.

Options and hardware requirements depend on the override. NVIDIA specifies Multi Frame Generation override for RTX 50-series GPUs, a Frame Generation model upgrade for RTX 40- and 50-series GPUs, and transformer model upgrades for GeForce RTX GPUs. These requirements apply to those particular override features, not to every DLSS feature or ordinary in-game DLSS setting. Check NVIDIA’s current override guidance for supported titles and details.

Check whether an override is active

In a game, open the NVIDIA overlay with Alt+Z, then go to Statistics > Statistics View > DLSS to display override status. Alt+R toggles the configured statistics display. This overlay view reports override status; it does not replace the game’s own graphics menu. NVIDIA documents these steps in its DLSS override guide.

If the DLSS setting is missing

  • Confirm that the game supports the specific feature you’re looking for; support for one DLSS technology does not mean the game includes them all.
  • Look in adjacent Graphics, Video, Display, or Upscaling menus, since labels and locations vary by title.
  • For an NVIDIA app override, check that the title and GPU meet that override’s requirements and that any corresponding in-game feature is enabled. NVIDIA’s override guide and NVIDIA app information describe availability and features.
