Check the NFL’s official injury report first, reading the player’s Practice Status and Game Status as separate fields. Then check the club’s inactive list close to kickoff: a practice report or midweek designation is not final confirmation that a player will be available.
Where to find the official report

Open the NFL’s official injury report. Select the relevant team or week if needed, then find the player by name.

Read the Practice Status entries across the week, followed by the separate Game Status field. Use the latest official update when a player’s condition changes.

Check the team’s inactive list near kickoff for the closest pregame confirmation of whether the player will be active.
What practice participation means
The NFL practice categories describe the player’s work in practice, not a diagnosis or a promised game workload.
| Practice status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Did Not Participate | The player did not participate in practice. |
| Limited Participation | Less than 100% of the player’s normal repetitions. |
| Full Participation | 100% of the player’s normal repetitions. |
A change from no participation to limited or full participation shows a practice trend. It does not, by itself, determine whether the player will be available or how much he will play.
What the game-status designations mean
The Game Status field addresses anticipated availability for the next game. The NFL policy says the report is expected to give clubs and the public “an accurate description of a player’s anticipated availability for the club’s next game.”

|---|---|
| Questionable | It is uncertain whether the player will play. |
| Doubtful | The player is unlikely to participate. |
| Out | The player will not play. |
The former Probable designation was removed. A player who appeared on a practice report but is omitted from the Game Status Report is, under NFL policy, a player the club is certain will play. Practice participation and game status are distinct; neither should be treated as a prediction of snaps.
When reports are due—and why the game day matters
Reporting deadlines vary with the scheduled kickoff day, so do not apply the Sunday deadline to every game. For a Sunday regular-season game on the 2026 schedule, clubs submit the Game Status Report by Friday at 4 p.m. New York time, or as soon as possible after practice. The NFL’s 2026–2027 important dates calendar sets different reporting days for Monday, Thursday, Saturday and other scheduled games. Clubs must also update the report if a player’s condition changes after the initial filing.

The inactive list is the last official check in this sequence. NFL game operations includes the exchange of each club’s inactive list in the 90-minute officiating meeting before kickoff, so check the team’s list close to game time rather than relying on an earlier practice entry. Game status: What availability designation did the club report?

Recency: Has a later report or condition update superseded the one you first saw?

Inactive confirmation: Is the player on the club’s inactive list near kickoff?
These are separate pieces of information, not a formula for assigning a probability. The NFL’s reporting categories do not establish a current percentage chance that a player with a given label will play.
