You can try Meta AI in a Meta app or service you already use, or through the Meta AI app or meta.ai. Start with a low-stakes question, then review what you share: Meta says information submitted in generative AI interactions may be used to improve its products and for other purposes. Which features and controls you see depends on your location, account, device, and the rollout.
Where can you use Meta AI?
Meta has described Meta AI access through Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, the standalone Meta AI app, meta.ai, and AI glasses. The exact entry point and available features differ by surface and market; a feature listed in an announcement may not have reached your account. Meta’s April 2025 announcement of the Meta AI app described text and voice interaction, web search, image generation and editing, a Discover feed, and personalization. Its July 2026 update described additional features beginning to roll out in select markets.
For your first attempt, use a surface you already have and look for Meta AI or an AI prompt option. If it is not visible, the feature may not be available for your region, account, or app version. You do not need AI glasses to try Meta AI.
How do you try Meta AI?
- Choose a surface. Open Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, or WhatsApp, or use the Meta AI app or meta.ai if available to you. Meta’s app announcement describes the standalone app for iOS and Android; availability may vary.
- Start with a low-stakes prompt. Ask a general question or choose a suggested prompt if one appears. Avoid entering sensitive personal details unless you are comfortable sharing them with an AI service.
- Try another capability only if it appears. Depending on the surface and rollout, you may be able to use voice, web search, or image generation and editing. Do not assume that every capability is enabled on every account.
- Try a group-chat prompt if supported. In a supported WhatsApp group chat, type
@MetaAIfollowed by your prompt. Meta’s March 2025 Europe announcement described the feature first rolling out on WhatsApp, with other messaging surfaces planned. Availability can differ by region and date.
What happens to information you share with Meta AI?
Sharing something with Meta AI is different from exchanging a private message with a friend. Meta says information people share while interacting with its generative AI can be used to improve products and for other purposes. Its generative AI privacy explainer describes training inputs including publicly available online information, licensed data, and information from Meta products and services. Meta says public Facebook and Instagram posts were used for some announced models, while private posts were not. It also says private messages with friends and family are not used to train its AIs unless someone in the chat chooses to share them with an AI.

Meta’s October 2025 announcement said that, in most regions, AI interactions would begin informing content and ad recommendations from December 16, 2025. It also said linked accounts in the same Accounts Center can affect personalization across Meta products, and that certain sensitive topics are not used to show people ads. Because these policies and their regional scope can change, consult Meta’s current privacy materials for the latest details.
How do you delete a Meta AI chat or information you shared?
Controls depend on the app and the kind of information. Meta’s privacy explainer gives /reset-ai as an example command for deleting information shared in AI chats on Messenger, Instagram, or WhatsApp. Meta’s Director of Product Management, Mike Clark, described the commands in a post published September 27, 2023 and updated June 8, 2026: “To give you more control, we’ve built in commands that allow you to delete information shared in any chat with an AI across Messenger, Instagram, or WhatsApp.” Check the current interface and guidance before relying on a particular command.

WhatsApp’s Meta AI Help Center page says users can delete individual Meta AI chats or request deletion of information previously shared with Meta AI. It also describes conditions for downloading chat history. Deleting a chat should not be assumed to erase every record or apply to every Meta AI surface.
Can you turn off Meta AI memory or delete a remembered detail?
Meta’s January 2025 memory announcement described a feature that could remember certain details shared in one-to-one chats on supported services, with an option to delete remembered details. Meta specified availability in the United States and Canada at the time of that announcement. That does not establish that the feature or a particular memory control is available to every user today. Check the current AI chat settings or official Help Center for the controls available on your surface.

What is Incognito Chat, and is it available to you?
On May 13, 2026, Meta announced Incognito Chat for WhatsApp and the Meta AI app. Meta said these temporary chats are processed in a secure environment that even Meta cannot access, are not saved, and disappear by default. The announcement described a rollout over the coming months, so check whether the option is present in your app and region before relying on it. Its announced availability does not make it a universal mode across Meta AI surfaces.
Where should you look for current privacy controls?
Meta identifies its Privacy Center as a resource for privacy information and choices across its apps, including ways to access, manage, download, or delete personal data. WhatsApp’s Help Center is another place to check for service-specific instructions. Menu names and paths can vary by app, country, account, and device, so use the current in-app settings or official help page rather than relying on a single universal sequence.

Can you delete Meta AI voice recordings from AI glasses?
Meta says people can delete Meta AI voice recordings on AI glasses, and that deleted information will not be used for future training. Its generative AI privacy explainer also cautions that removing information does not instantly change patterns a model has already learned.
