Full Participation means a player completed 100% of their normal practice repetitions; Limited Participation means they completed less than 100%; and Did Not Participate means they completed none. These labels describe practice work—not whether the player will be available for the game.
What each NFL practice participation level means
| Report label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Did Not Participate | Zero percent of the player’s normal repetitions. |
| Limited Participation | Less than 100 percent of the player’s normal repetitions. |
| Full Participation | 100 percent of the player’s normal repetitions. |
These definitions come from the NFL’s 2017 Injury Report Policy. “Normal repetitions” includes work in both individual drills and the team portion of practice.
How to interpret “normal repetitions”
The categories are measured against the player’s usual practice work, not a fixed number of reps shared by every player. A player who completes individual drills but skips the team portion is reported as Limited Participation under the NFL policy.
The policy also addresses scout-team work: if a medical condition limits a player who would normally take starter repetitions, extensive scout-team participation does not change the limited designation.

Practice participation is not game status
A practice label answers how much a player practiced. It does not say by itself whether the player will play or miss the game. The NFL removed “Out” from the Practice Report to avoid confusing practice participation with the separate Game Status Report, as explained in its announcement of injury-report policy revisions.
Read the participation category alongside the injury description and the separate game-status designation. A full practice is not a guarantee of availability, and limited or no practice is not a final inactive decision. The categories also are not diagnoses or standardized measures of injury severity.

Walkthroughs and player days off
On a normal reporting day when a club holds a walkthrough instead of regular practice, or gives players the day off, it still reports an estimated participation category based on the work expected in a regular practice. The NFL policy says the report should identify that category as an estimate.

- Compare the player’s entries across report days. Look at whether the participation category changes as the week progresses.
- Check the game-status field separately. Use that designation—not the practice label alone—to understand the player’s reported status for the game.
The NFL’s 2026 weekly injury report illustrates practice participation and game status as distinct report fields; it is an example of the format, not a forecast for any particular player or matchup.
