The desktop GeForce GTX 1650 was a compact, entry-level Turing graphics card whose strongest launch-era selling point was its modest 75W power rating—not consistently class-leading gaming speed. In 2019 reviews, its performance varied by game, and TechSpot found the Radeon RX 570 about 10% faster on average. The GTX 1650 could still suit a low-power or space-constrained upgrade, but check the exact board’s power connector and fit, and treat all performance and price comparisons below as historical rather than current buying advice.

What is the GTX 1650?

The original desktop GTX 1650 is an entry-level graphics card based on NVIDIA’s Turing architecture. Tom’s Hardware identifies its GPU as TU117-300-A1, made on TSMC’s 12nm FinFET process. Unlike higher-end Turing cards, TU117 does not include the RT and Tensor cores associated with those models.

The reference/original GDDR5 configuration reviewed in 2019 has 896 CUDA cores, 4GB of GDDR5 memory, a 128-bit memory bus, 128GB/s memory bandwidth, and a 75W TDP. Board and memory variants exist, so a listing’s exact specifications matter. For context, Tom’s Hardware lists the GTX 1660 with 1,408 CUDA cores, 6GB GDDR5 and a 192-bit bus, while its GTX 1660 Ti entry has 1,536 cores, 6GB GDDR6 and a 192-bit bus.

Is the GTX 1650 good for gaming?

It was a viable entry-level 1080p gaming option in the games tested at launch, but performance was not uniform. TechSpot’s April 23, 2019 review tested a dozen games at 1080p and found the RX 570 substantially ahead in some titles, close in others, and behind the GTX 1650 in a few. Those results reflect TechSpot’s test system, software, game versions, and settings—not a guarantee for every PC or a measure of current games.

Game in TechSpot’s 2019 test Reported result
World War Z RX 570 led by 38%.
The Division 2 RX 570 led by 27%.
Forza Horizon 4 RX 570 led by 21%.
Resident Evil 2 RX 570 led by 30%.
Far Cry New Dawn RX 570 led by 18%.
Apex Legends and Metro Exodus Results were much closer.
Fortnite and Rainbow Six Siege GTX 1650 won.

Across its comparison, TechSpot summarized the RX 570 as approximately 10% faster on average. The practical takeaway is that the GTX 1650’s gaming performance depended on the title; a single overall ranking obscures those differences. These launch benchmarks do not establish how either card performs in today’s games.

GTX 1650 vs. RX 570: which is faster?

In TechSpot’s 2019 test suite, the RX 570 was faster on average, by about 10%, but individual results ranged from close matchups to substantial RX 570 leads and GTX 1650 wins. In the review market at the time, TechSpot said the GTX 1650 was around 15% more expensive. PCWorld reported a $149 GTX 1650 launch price and RX 570 cards available around $130–$140 at that time. These are 2019 figures, not current prices or a present-day value comparison.

The GTX 1650 used less total system power in TechSpot’s setup: measured system consumption was 184W with one GTX 1650 board and 192W with another; RX 570 system consumption was 55% higher. This is a result for the tested whole systems, not a card-only measurement or a current efficiency comparison.

  • Quiet Cooling Performance: Paired with two semi-automatic intelligent fans, noise levels are great while gaming, you barely can hear the card spinning. Fans aren't even noticable even when the card is maxed. It is a excellent card with great tempt and performance.
  • Max 150W TDP: This GTX 1660Ti 6gb video card is dual-slot wideth, takes PCIe 3.0×16 lane and also draws power from a 6-pin PCIe connector. Please make sure your PSU is minimum 400 Watts to match the requirement.

Can a GTX 1650 run without a power connector?

Some GTX 1650 boards draw power from the PCIe slot without a supplemental connector, but others require a six-pin PCIe power lead. The 75W TDP makes slot-powered designs possible; it does not mean every partner card is connector-free. Tom’s Hardware cautioned: “But pay close attention as you shop—some implementations lack a six-pin connector, while others (like ours) require one.”

Before choosing a card for a prebuilt or small PC, verify the exact SKU’s requirements and physical fit:

  • PCIe power connector, if any, and whether the power supply has the required lead.
  • Card length, height, and slot width against the case’s clearance.
  • Display outputs against the monitor or adapter you intend to use.
  • The exact memory and model variant shown on the listing.

Is the GTX 1650 the same as the GTX 1650 SUPER?

No. NVIDIA announced the GTX 1650 SUPER as a separate product in November 2019. Do not treat its specifications or benchmark results as applying to the original GTX 1650. Check the complete model name and the specific board’s memory configuration when comparing listings. NVIDIA’s announcement is useful for identifying the product distinction; its promotional performance claims are NVIDIA’s own, not independent benchmark results.

What did the GTX 1650 cost at launch?

NVIDIA’s April 2019 launch price was $149. That MSRP and the RX 570 prices cited above describe the 2019 market only. They should not be used as a current price guide: current regional pricing, stock, and the condition of used cards have not been established here.

Should you buy a GTX 1650 now?

A current recommendation depends on the exact card and the local alternatives, not on its launch reputation alone. Compare the asking price and new or used condition with current options, then check performance in the games and resolution you care about. Also confirm VRAM and memory type, power requirements, dimensions, and whether the card is a standard GTX 1650, a variant, or a GTX 1650 SUPER. The evidence summarized here supports a historical review, not a current-market verdict.
