If Forza Horizon 6 does nothing when you select Play, first check that your PC meets the game’s requirements and update Gaming Services, Windows, and your graphics driver. Then test for background-app conflicts. Use account or Microsoft Store repairs only when the symptom points to them, and record any error code before contacting support.
First, identify what “not launching” looks like
Note whether you play through Steam or the Xbox app/Microsoft Store, and what happens after you press Play: nothing visible, a brief process or splash screen followed by a close, an error dialog, or a stall at sign-in or loading. Record the exact error code if one appears. Those symptoms can point to different causes; “nothing happens” alone does not identify one.
Also note your Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, and whether the game process briefly appears in Task Manager. Forza’s PC launch and crash troubleshooting guide distinguishes crashes and sign-in problems and directs players to collect diagnostic details when the game closes without a useful message.
Check that your PC meets Forza Horizon 6’s requirements
Compare your system with the current Forza PC specifications before changing software or reinstalling. The published minimums include a 64-bit system running Windows 10 version 22H2 or later, DirectX 12, 16 GB RAM, an SSD, and 167 GB of available storage. The listed minimum CPU examples are Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1600; minimum GPU examples are NVIDIA GTX 1650, AMD RX 6500 XT, or Intel Arc A380.

Forza says NVIDIA Pascal-generation GPUs and older are not guaranteed to work, while AMD Polaris/Vega-generation GPUs and older will not work. A machine that is below the minimum or uses an unsupported operating system can fail regardless of whether the game files are intact. Forza’s published Steam minimums also list an SSD as required; check available space and drive compatibility rather than treating extra storage as a fix for unrelated driver, account, or software issues.
Update Gaming Services on Steam or Xbox
Forza’s dedicated Gaming Services guidance applies to PC players on both Steam and the Xbox app. The Forza Support Team’s article, updated June 12, 2026, says Gaming Services version 37.114.10001.0 or later is the minimum supported release.
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Select Downloads, then choose Check for updates.
- Install the Gaming Services update if it is offered.
- To check the installed version, open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed Apps → Gaming Services → Advanced Options.

Install Windows and graphics-driver updates, then restart
Run Windows Update and install the current graphics driver from your GPU manufacturer. Playground Games recommended current PC graphics drivers in its May 22, 2026 status update. After updating Windows, perform a full shutdown and restart before testing the game again; avoid relying on a quick close-and-reopen as the only restart step.
Use NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel’s official driver source for your graphics hardware rather than a generic driver-updater utility. An update is a troubleshooting step, not a guarantee that every launch failure will be fixed.
May 22, 2026 is the date of the developer’s status report, not proof that the same issues remain active now. That post said Playground Games was investigating PC framerate issues on AMD GPUs and audio crackling on some PC hardware, and that a hotfix had improved “Invalid Loading” errors. Check current official news and release updates for later status before assuming a reported issue is still unresolved.

Test for overlay and background-software conflicts
Forza identifies overlays and other background tools as possible sources of interference. Close nonessential programs, then try launching the game. Relevant examples include Discord or GeForce overlays, capture and streaming tools, input-monitoring or input-altering utilities, hardware monitoring or overclocking tools, and security software. This list does not establish that any particular app is the cause on your PC.
- Turn off overlays and close capture, monitoring, or input utilities for a test.
- If the game starts, re-enable tools one at a time to isolate a possible conflict.
- If the cause remains unclear, use a Windows clean boot to test with a minimal set of startup programs and services.
- Do not leave antivirus or firewall protection disabled as a general fix. If you temporarily change a security setting for diagnosis, restore it afterward.
Forza’s launch troubleshooting guide discusses background applications and security software as possible conflicts. Its older title-specific steps should not be assumed to apply to Horizon 6 unless the current FH6 guidance confirms them.

Use Store, Xbox-account, or Steam-account steps only when they fit
Xbox app or Microsoft Store: try the Store reset for a Store-related issue
For Microsoft Store/UWP problems, Forza recommends resetting Microsoft Store and the Forza game using Windows app advanced options. In Windows Settings → Apps → Installed Apps, open the relevant app’s advanced options and use the available repair or reset controls. Resetting can affect app data or sign-in state, so use it for a Store-related symptom rather than as a universal first step.

Xbox sign-in trouble: clear Xbox Live credentials
If the failure is at Xbox sign-in, Forza’s launch guide recommends clearing Xbox Live credentials. This may require signing in again in other apps that use those credentials. Do not apply the step just because the game fails to open without a sign-in symptom.
Steam: link the Microsoft account before entering gameplay
Steam players must link a Microsoft/Xbox account to their Steam profile before gameplay. If the game loops at sign-in, follow the developer’s account-linking and sign-in guidance in its Forza Horizon 6 Steam FAQ, rather than resetting Store apps as though the game were installed from Microsoft Store.

See the developer’s Steam FAQ for its current code definitions and account instructions. Do not infer a precise cause from a generic crash or from the fact that no window appeared.
Collect diagnostics if the game still will not start
If the game displays a crash dialog, take a screenshot showing the complete error and attach it to a Forza support ticket. If there is no useful game dialog, inspect Windows Event Viewer for an application error at the time of the failed launch.
- Open Event Viewer.
- Go to Windows Logs → Application.
- Find an Application Error entry matching the time you tried to launch FH6.
- Save or attach the relevant event details and a DXDIAG report when submitting a support ticket.
Forza’s PC troubleshooting article describes the crash-dialog and Event Viewer route. For bugs and known-issue tracking, use the developer’s official news and feedback channels.
