What does The Witcher 3 Complete Edition include?
The Complete Edition combines The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with the two major expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. CD PROJEKT RED says the digital storefront base game has been replaced by the Complete Edition, so a new digital buyer can no longer choose a base-game-only version. The expansions remain accessible as separate starts from the main menu, and their achievements or trophies are unaffected. If you already own an expansion, the publisher says its content remains in your library and is patched into the base game.
Which edition should you choose?
Buying for the first time
Choose the Complete Edition for your intended platform. It bundles the base game and both expansions, and the publisher says the standalone base game is no longer offered on digital storefronts.

Already own the base game or an expansion
Check your library on the platform or storefront where you own it, then look for the update or Remastered entitlement before purchasing again. The publisher says current owners gain access to the expansions, while prior physical and digital owners can upgrade to Remastered for free within the same platform ecosystem. Expansion content is patched into the base game.
Choosing PS4 or Xbox One
CD PROJEKT RED says the existing PS4 and Xbox One situation otherwise remains unchanged, with both expansions available to download free. These legacy-console downloads are separate from the Remastered release: the publisher’s current Remastered platform list names PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Considering a physical copy
Physical ownership qualifies for the publisher-described free Remastered upgrade within the same platform ecosystem. Before buying a disc, verify the console generation, region, seller, and exact product listing. Current retailer stock, prices, and specific package or SKU compatibility are not established here.

Is The Witcher 3 Remastered upgrade free?
Yes, for prior owners within the same platform ecosystem. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered launched on September 29, 2026. CD PROJEKT RED says owners of a previous physical or digital version can upgrade at no cost within that ecosystem. The PC launch list names Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net, alongside PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The launch announcement lists availability.
Do not assume that owning the game on one storefront or console family grants a copy on another. The stated upgrade is ecosystem-specific, not a universal cross-platform entitlement.
Nintendo Switch owners moving to Switch 2
The publisher specifically said Nintendo Switch owners could claim Remastered on Nintendo Switch 2 after release. That is a stated Switch-to-Switch 2 path; it should not be generalized to other platform transfers. Read the Switch 2 upgrade announcement.

Saves and cross progression
The publisher’s current product page says save files remain compatible and Cross Progression continues to function as before. Its public description does not enumerate every supported platform pairing, account state, or transfer procedure. CD PROJEKT RED describes visual, combat, and quality-of-life changes. These are publisher-listed features, not independently verified performance results or a guarantee of identical benefits on every platform. The feature announcement describes:
- Upgraded textures for environments, NPCs, and monsters, plus improved foliage.
- Reworked lighting, rendering, and ray tracing.
- Revised combat animations, finishers, and camera work, along with an overhauled skill tree.
- Transmogrification, immersive meditation, an expanded photo mode, and cross-platform mod support.
- Native DirectX 12 rendering with multithreading on PC.

Can you still buy the base game without the expansions?
No, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s FAQ: the digital storefront base game has been replaced by the Complete Edition, and the publisher says only the Complete Edition is available for new digital purchases. Existing owners are handled differently: the publisher says expansion content is made available through their existing game library rather than requiring a new purchase. Check the official FAQ.
