A purchase on one storefront does not establish ownership on another.
Before you install: identify your platform and ownership
Choose the instructions below based on the device you will play on and where your game license is held. A PC copy in one storefront’s library is not automatically a copy in another storefront. On PlayStation, distinguish a digital license from a PS4 disc; on Xbox, distinguish Xbox One from Series X|S.
The September 29, 2026 Remastered announcement names GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S for the free upgrade. It also lists Battle.net and Microsoft Store as places to buy the game. Purchase availability and upgrade eligibility are separate: the announcement does not say that buying from one PC storefront grants a license in another. Install or update The Witcher 3 on PC
- Open the PC storefront where you own the game: GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, or Battle.net.
- Open that storefront’s library, select The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and choose its install or update option. The exact labels and download flow depend on the launcher.
- Wait for the client to finish installing or updating, then launch the game from that client.

Check the current PC requirements
Check the live requirements shown by the storefront where you own the game before installing. The retrieved Steam listing said its system requirements would change on September 29, 2026, and the replacement figures are not established here. Do not rely on older CPU, GPU, operating-system, or storage figures as current.
Install or update on PlayStation
PS5 digital copy or library entitlement
- On PS5, open your game library or PlayStation Store and locate the PS5 edition associated with your account.
- Select the available install or update option and let the console complete the process.
- Launch the game from the console’s game library.

PS4 disc owner installing on a disc-drive PS5
Insert the PS4 disc into the PS5 to install and play the next-generation copy, as CD PROJEKT RED specifies. Keep the disc inserted when you play. A PS5 Digital Edition has no disc drive and cannot use a disc-only entitlement.
Playing on PS4
Use your PS4 game library or PlayStation Store to install or update the PS4 version. The PS4 version is not the PS5 Remastered release; do not assume that a PS4 digital license or disc has the same upgrade path as every other PS4 ownership type. Check the entitlement shown for your account and edition.

Install or update on Xbox
Xbox Series X|S
- Open your Xbox library or Microsoft Store and locate the copy associated with your account.
- Choose the available install or update option and allow the console to finish.
- Launch the game from the console library.
CD PROJEKT RED names Xbox Series X|S as a platform for the September 2026 Remastered upgrade, and Microsoft Store as a purchase channel. The publisher’s older Xbox support article describes patch 4.0 as the previous next-generation update; it predates the Remastered announcement. Read the official Xbox support information.
Xbox One
Install or update the Xbox One version from the console’s library or Microsoft Store. Xbox One remains a previous-generation version; the Series X|S Remastered announcement should not be read as confirming an Xbox One Remastered upgrade.

The September 2026 Remastered announcement says Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are included. CD PROJEKT RED’s support FAQ says owners of the base game should update to the latest version to install the expansions, and specifically says the expansions can be downloaded free by PS4 and Xbox One owners. The FAQ also reports that standalone expansions were delisted and the base game was replaced by Complete Edition; storefront listings and entitlements can change, so check your platform’s current library or store details. - Game missing from the library: Confirm that you are signed in to the account and storefront where the game was purchased. A purchase on a different storefront is not evidence of a transferable license.
- PS4 disc upgrade will not install: Confirm the disc is inserted and that the PS5 has a disc drive. A PS5 Digital Edition cannot read the disc.
- PC installation or launch fails: Check the PC support index’s installation and launch sections for platform-specific troubleshooting. Review the current storefront requirements rather than relying on old figures.
