Yes. NVIDIA lists the GeForce GTX 1060 among its VR Ready GPUs, and Steam lists it as a recommended GPU for SteamVR. That is a useful compatibility benchmark, not a guarantee that every GTX 1060-equipped PC will run every headset or VR app well. The “affordable” part also needs a date: NVIDIA announced a $249 starting MSRP in July 2016, which does not establish what the card costs today.
What “VR-ready” means for the GTX 1060
NVIDIA’s GeForce VR page includes the GTX 1060 in its performance list for VR Ready GPUs. Its legacy desktop requirements name a GTX 1060 or greater as the graphics-card requirement. Steam independently lists the GTX 1060 as a recommended GPU for SteamVR.
Together, these listings support calling the GTX 1060 VR-ready in the context of those recommendations. They do not certify a complete PC, establish compatibility with every headset, or promise a particular frame rate or image quality in every application.
Requirements depend on the headset and the whole PC

- Frame Buffer: 6 GB GDDR5/X
- Memory Spped: 8 Gbps
- 1280 Nvidia Cuda Cores
- GPU Architecture Pascal
- Founder's Edition
- Intel Core i5-4590 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or greater
- 8GB or more of RAM
- One HDMI 1.4 output
- Three USB 3.0 ports
For HTC Vive Pro, NVIDIA’s stated GPU requirement is higher: GTX 1070 or greater. Check the requirements for the exact headset rather than applying the GTX 1060 recommendation to all VR hardware.
SteamVR and Windows Mixed Reality
Steam’s SteamVR requirements list the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060, or an equivalent AMD Radeon RX 480 or better, under “Recommended”; the same block lists a GTX 970 or equivalent as the minimum GPU. Minimum and recommended are different thresholds, and neither one guarantees that a specific game or experience will perform to your preference.

Steam Support says requirements vary among Windows Mixed Reality headsets and Steam apps; lower specifications can affect performance or quality. Its Windows Mixed Reality and SteamVR guidance is a reminder to check both the headset and the apps you plan to use.
Is a GTX 1060 affordable now?
NVIDIA’s July 7, 2016 launch announcement gave a starting MSRP of $249 for custom GTX 1060 boards. That is historical launch pricing, not a current used-card price or evidence that the card is affordable today. Current stock, listing prices, and card condition are not established here, so compare live listings before deciding whether one is good value.
