What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
On a Kindle e-reader, open a book, tap the top of the screen, then select Aa to adjust the book’s font size. To change brightness, swipe down from the home screen for Quick Actions or open Settings; compatible models also offer warmth and Dark Mode controls. Menus and available features vary by model. Kindle apps have a separate Aa workflow.
Change the font size in a Kindle e-reader book
- Open the book you want to read.
- Tap the top of the screen to show the reading toolbar.
- Tap Aa, the Page Display icon, and open the Font tab.
- Adjust the size with the slider or plus/minus controls. You can also pinch in or out on the page.
Amazon says reading display preferences apply across books on the Kindle, though the available choices can vary by model. See Amazon’s font-size instructions and text-display guidance.
Change the device interface text size
This setting changes text in the Kindle’s interface, not the text size inside a book. Amazon lists it for Kindle E-Reader 11th Generation and later, Kindle Scribe, and Kindle Colorsoft.
- Open Settings.
- Select Screen and brightness, then Display & text size.
- Choose a size. On Kindle Scribe, drag or tap the slider.
The device font-size option is not available on every Kindle model; Amazon notes that display settings vary by device.

Adjust brightness and warmth
From the home screen, swipe down to open Quick Actions, or select the Settings icon. While reading, tap the top of the screen to show the toolbar. Adjust brightness with the scale or the + and − buttons.
On compatible Kindles, Screen and brightness includes Brightness and warmth controls. Warmth is a separate adjustment from brightness and is not available on every model. Some devices also let you long-press the brightness buttons to maximize or turn off the front light. For model-specific steps, see Amazon’s screen-light instructions.

Change color appearance or turn on Dark Mode
On compatible e-readers, open Settings > Screen and brightness, then choose Appearance or Color Style and select a mode. You can also swipe down to Quick Actions and choose Dark Mode.
Amazon describes e-reader Dark Mode as inverting text, images, and page colors on compatible black-and-white devices, including Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, and Kindle Scribe. If a PDF becomes difficult to read with Dark Mode or Page Color enabled, turn the feature off to restore the PDF’s original format. See Amazon’s Dark Mode instructions.

Adjust settings in Kindle reading apps
The app workflow is distinct from the e-reader menus. On Kindle apps for Android and iOS:
- Open a book and tap the top center of the screen.
- Select Aa to open reading settings.
- In Font, adjust font size or screen brightness. In Layout, choose among the listed page colors: white, sepia, light green, or black.
Amazon says the Android and iOS apps follow the device’s Dark Mode setting. App options also include spacing, fonts, themes, and margins. Kindle for web, PC, and macOS have their own settings, so do not assume the Android or iOS menu path applies to them. See Amazon’s app accessibility and reading-options guidance.
