Krispy Kreme’s November 2024 cyber incident briefly disrupted online ordering in parts of the United States, but shops stayed open and deliveries to retail and restaurant partners continued. The company later reported that its operations had recovered; separate settlement materials clarified that personal information was also involved.
What happened, and when?
Krispy Kreme said it was notified on November 29, 2024, of unauthorized activity on part of its information technology systems. The company said it began investigating, containing the activity, and remediating the issue with external cybersecurity experts. It publicly disclosed the incident as material in a Form 8-K filed on December 11, 2024. The filing also said Krispy Kreme had notified federal law enforcement.
At that time, the company said it did not yet know the incident’s full scope, nature, or impact. Its filings describe unauthorized activity but do not identify an attacker or establish the precise intrusion method. The available records therefore do not confirm a named group or a specific attack technique.
Were Krispy Kreme shops open, and could customers order?
The December 11 filing distinguished online ordering from in-person sales and deliveries: online ordering was disrupted in parts of the United States, but shops globally remained open, customers could order in person, and fresh deliveries to retail and restaurant partners were uninterrupted. Krispy Kreme stated: “Krispy Kreme shops globally are open, and consumers are able to place orders in person, but the Company is experiencing certain operational disruptions, including with online ordering in parts of the United States.” The Form 8-K did not say that shops had closed or deliveries had stopped.

When did operations recover?
In its first-quarter fiscal 2025 reporting, Krispy Kreme said online ordering, shops, and core business functions were fully operational. The company also reported continuing remediation expenses and operational inefficiencies early in that quarter. In its second-quarter fiscal 2025 filing, it said its investigation was substantially completed and again reported that online ordering, retail shops, and core business functions were fully operational. The second-quarter filing states: “As previously disclosed, our online ordering, retail shops, and core business functions are now fully operational.”
What personal information was involved?
A court-authorized settlement FAQ later described unauthorized access to or acquisition of settlement-class members’ private information. The FAQ says the information involved may include some combination of names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and financial-account access information. It does not mean every affected person had every listed data type involved. The settlement FAQ describes the claims and settlement; it is not a court finding that Krispy Kreme was at fault.

Krispy Kreme denies the legal claims and denies wrongdoing or liability. The FAQ says the court made no determination of wrongdoing or whether any law was violated. Keep that legal posture distinct from the company’s acknowledgment of unauthorized activity and the settlement’s description of information involved.
What did the incident cost Krispy Kreme?
The company reported figures from different periods and accounting categories. They are not interchangeable, should not be added together, and do not show that insurance fully offset the impact.

The settlement FAQ listed a claim deadline of June 22, 2026. That deadline has passed. Do not rely on the historical FAQ as evidence that claims remain open; check current court or settlement-administrator information for any present-day updates.
