If you can’t reach the Dreaming City or a Petra Venj mission won’t appear or start, first check whether the problem is destination access, the mission’s rotation, or its in-world starting point. The old advice to finish the Forsaken campaign to unlock the Dreaming City is outdated: Bungie says destinations can be explored, though specific Forsaken activities still require the relevant content entitlement.
Can’t access the Dreaming City?
Bungie’s current available-content guide says all destinations can be explored. The Forsaken campaign was moved into the Destiny Content Vault in Year 5, so older instructions that require completing it to unlock the Dreaming City describe a former access flow.

If the Dreaming City is missing after New Light onboarding, check the Director and make sure the character has completed the required New Light steps. Then restart or reload the game and consult Bungie Guided Support if the destination remains unavailable.
Separate destination access from Forsaken Pack activities
The Forsaken Pack covers more than 20 Forsaken Exotic weapons, The Shattered Throne dungeon, and the Last Wish raid. It is not a general fix for entering the Dreaming City or finding Petra’s weekly missions. If one of those specific activities displays a lock or purchase prompt, check your platform entitlement and use Bungie’s Pack troubleshooting route. The available guidance does not establish that the Pack is required for Petra’s three rotating missions.

Why is Petra’s mission missing?
Petra’s three repeatable Dreaming City story missions—Broken Courier, The Oracle Engine, and Dark Monastery—rotate with the curse cycle. A mission that is not in Petra’s inventory may simply be out of rotation. A Bungie Help forum response describes a three-week cycle, but it is not a current official weekly schedule; check Petra’s live inventory after reset rather than relying on a calendar or assuming the mission is permanently unavailable.
The references describe Broken Courier as appearing on the weakest-curse week and The Oracle Engine during the growing-curse week. Treat those as rotation clues, not a guarantee of the current offer. If you miss a mission, you generally need to wait for its next rotation.

How to pick up and start a Petra mission
- Visit Petra in person. Inspect her quest inventory in the Dreaming City. Petra’s Dreaming City quests are not available through the Destiny Companion’s mobile bounty feature.
- Confirm the quest is in your Quest tab. Accepting the quest and launching its mission are separate actions.
- Travel to the mission’s start area. The start may be an Awoken character or banner in the destination, not a new node on the Director map.
Broken Courier
After accepting the quest from Petra, look for the Awoken Corsair in a small cave in The Strand, near the Rift Generator public event and the giant statue.
The Oracle Engine
After accepting the quest, look for the Awoken Techeun near a cliff in the Divalian Mists, between the exits toward Spine of Keres and Rheasilvia.

Dark Monastery
This is the third rotating Petra mission. The available references do not establish a reliable, current start-location description for it, so follow the quest marker and check Petra’s current destination information.
Mission accepted, but no start marker appears
First confirm the quest is still in your Quest tab and that you are in the correct start area. If the start point still does not appear, return to orbit, load the Dreaming City again, and check the area. Players have reported that reloading the destination can restore a missing start point, but this is a community-reported workaround, not a guaranteed fix.

Reference pages say Broken Courier and The Oracle Engine expire at the next weekly reset and can be repeated once per character per week. These are reference-page rules, not a fresh in-game verification. Community guidance also warns that picking up a mission before reset and finishing it afterward may confuse related triumph progress.
- Check the triumph’s exact objective and the mission’s current status.
- Where possible, pick up and complete the same weekly mission within one reset period.
- Check the triumph screen before repeating anything; if progress still does not register, try again on the next rotation.
Offering to the Oracle error
An Offering to the Oracle interaction is a separate issue from Petra’s rotating mission pickup. Check the relevant quest and item state, then try reloading once. In a Bungie Help Forum thread on November 29, 2023, representative BNGHelp6 replied to a reported error: “We’re currently investigating this issue.” That records Bungie’s response at that time; it does not establish whether the issue remains active or whether a later fix was released. If the problem persists, report your platform, character, quest step, and the message or behavior shown by the Oracle interaction to Bungie Help.
