A “three-peat” means winning the World Series in three consecutive seasons—or extending a championship streak beyond three. MLB counts four completed World Series streaks of at least three consecutive titles, all by the Yankees or Athletics. The Dodgers’ bid for a third straight title was still underway on October 1, 2026.

What does a Dodgers three-peat mean?

It would mean the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series for a third consecutive season. The phrase “three-peat” describes consecutive championships, not simply three titles won at any point. A run that continues for four or five seasons is also a streak of at least three consecutive titles.

The Dodgers won the 2024 and 2025 World Series. MLB reported on October 1, 2026, that they were opening their title defense in the National League Division Series and pursuing a third straight championship. The result of that bid was unresolved at that time. MLB’s October 1 report noted that no National League team had completed a three-peat through that date. The Associated Press also described the Dodgers as seeking to become the first team to win three consecutive World Series since the 1998–2000 Yankees. The AP report was published September 17, 2026.

How often has a team won at least three World Series in a row?

There have been four completed streaks of at least three consecutive World Series titles, according to MLB’s 2026 historical overview. They were achieved by just two franchises: the New York Yankees and the Oakland Athletics. MLB’s overview lists the championship runs.

Franchise Seasons Consecutive titles
New York Yankees 1936–39 4
New York Yankees 1949–53 5
Oakland Athletics 1972–74 3
New York Yankees 1998–2000 3

The count is four streaks, not four occasions of exactly three titles: the Yankees’ 1936–39 run lasted four seasons, and their 1949–53 run lasted five.

Which World Series streak is the longest?

The Yankees’ 1949–53 run of five consecutive championships is MLB’s longest World Series title streak. The Yankees account for three of the four streaks in the table; the Athletics account for the other one.

Why is a three-peat difficult?

Repeating as champion is already uncommon; sustaining the run for a third season is harder still. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman put it this way: “We’ve seen how difficult it is to repeat. It’s even more difficult to do it three in a row.” MLB quoted Friedman in its October 1, 2026 report.
