Carrying the ball forward
Baleba’s work does not stop when he wins the ball. He can carry it into space to help move his team from defence into attack. Manchester United says he ranked fourth among Premier League midfielders for progressive ball carries per 90 minutes in 2024/25. That supports his value as a forward carrier, but does not by itself make him an attacking midfielder.
Distribution and decision-making
He can contribute with his passing as well as his running. The Premier League’s 2024/25 analysis highlighted his left-footed distribution and cited a pass that helped release Kaoru Mitoma at Old Trafford. The examples support a useful distribution element alongside his more prominent ball-winning and carrying; they do not establish a complete passing profile or a fixed role at his new club.

What do the statistics say—and not say?
Manchester United’s profile says Baleba made 31 Premier League appearances for Brighton in 2025/26, a season it says helped the club qualify for the UEFA Conference League. The same profile places him in the top eight per cent of players for combined tackles and interceptions, and the top one per cent for second balls won in 2025/26. These are club-reported comparisons across players, not a forecast of his role or output at Manchester United.
Keep those full-season 2025/26 claims separate from the Premier League’s 23 February 2025 snapshot of 2024/25. The latter reports 36 interceptions in 20 starts and per-90 duel and recovery rates for a comparison group with at least 15 starts. Different seasons, sample dates and comparison methods should not be blended into one current-stat line.
