A map pin is not a reason to confront someone: if you suspect theft, Samsung says to inform the authorities and let them retrieve the device.
Start locating the phone from another device
- Open Samsung Find or SmartThings Find in a browser, or open the service on another Galaxy device. Samsung’s current US instructions mention both services; names and interfaces can vary by market and software version. Samsung UK describes Find My Mobile as part of SmartThings Find. See Samsung UK’s service overview.
- Sign in with the Samsung account registered on the missing phone. Select the Galaxy from the device list to see its location and the actions available for it. If the phone is not listed, confirm you used the correct account.
- Use Samsung’s official service rather than treating an unfamiliar map or message as proof of the phone’s location.
Understand what the map location tells you
If the phone is powered off
Samsung’s US instructions say that a powered-off phone may show only its last known location. That point may be useful as a clue, but it does not establish where the phone is now.
If the phone is offline but still on
Offline finding may help when the phone is disconnected from mobile data, provided the feature was enabled beforehand and nearby compatible Galaxy devices can participate. Those devices can relay a location, but they do not identify the lost phone’s exact position. Availability and device support vary by region; see Samsung India’s SmartThings Find explanation.
If the phone may be moving on transit
Samsung’s Track location control can provide updates every 15 minutes. It may help you follow a phone that could be on a bus or train, but the interval is not continuous live tracking and does not guarantee a precise position.

Choose a remote action based on the situation

If you suspect the phone was stolen
Do not go to the map location or confront anyone. Samsung’s US support guidance says to inform the authorities and let them retrieve the device. Contact your carrier as well to ask whether it can help locate the phone or suspend service. Carrier assistance is provider-specific, and there is no universal procedure for travelers abroad.
Protect accounts if you cannot erase the phone
If remote erasure is unavailable, change passwords for accounts that may be signed in on the Galaxy. Samsung says changing the Samsung account password logs out other devices using that account. Consider the accounts and services with access to sensitive information, rather than waiting for the phone to reappear.

Check the settings before your next trip
On the Galaxy, open Settings > Security and privacy > Lost device protection. Check that Allow this phone to be found, Send last location, and Offline finding are enabled. Menu wording can differ by device, software version, and market. Samsung’s US instructions require a Samsung account and describe ordinary remote locating as requiring the phone to be powered on and connected to a stable network; when it is off, only the last known location may be available. Offline finding relies on nearby participating, compatible Galaxy devices, so it is a fallback rather than a guarantee.
