These are sensible adjustments to test—not a guaranteed preset—because results depend on your hardware and the scenes you play.
Best starting settings for smoother play
If the game already runs smoothly, start with native display resolution and 100% rendering scale, then adjust only if you notice a problem. When performance drops, change one option at a time and test the scene where you noticed it.
- Lower rendering scale. Reduce it in small steps, such as from 100% to 75%, and check the result. A lower scale renders the game internally at a lower resolution, which can reduce graphics workload but makes the image less sharp. The game offers scale choices in 25% steps from 25% to 200%, according to PC Gamer’s 2020 review. Raising scale above 100% can make the image clearer through supersampling, but increases rendering work.
- Lower shadow quality. Try Medium or Low rather than High if you still see slowdowns. The available choices are Low, Medium, and High.
- Turn off anti-aliasing if needed. This can reduce graphics workload, at the cost of less-smoothed edges. The game offers On and Off.
- Reduce anisotropic filtering if needed. Try Low or Off if you need another adjustment; distant or angled textures may look less clear. The choices are Off, Low, and High.
- Test and restore image quality carefully. Once performance feels acceptable in the scenes that were slow, raise one setting at a time. If slowdown returns, undo that change before testing another.
This order is a practical starting point based on what the settings control, not a controlled comparison or a measured guarantee. The cited settings overview is from the game’s 2020 PC launch.

Choose display mode and V-Sync for your setup
Try Windowed, Fullscreen, or Borderless according to how you use your PC and which mode works reliably with your display setup. Changing mode is a compatibility or preference choice, not a proven way to make the game faster.
V-Sync is worth considering if you see tearing: PC Gamer reported tearing with it disabled on its low-end test setup. That observation does not mean turning it on will improve frame rate or fix every case. Check how the game looks and feels on your own system.

Check that your PC meets the published requirements
Steam lists the following system requirements for the PC version. They are published specifications, not a promise of a particular resolution or frame rate.

These figures come from the Steam store listing. The store also advertises Full HD support and variable frame rates, but neither means every PC can sustain a chosen resolution or frame rate. Its note about Steam Client support for Windows 10 and later beginning January 1, 2024 is a Steam Client policy note, not a game-performance specification.

Use current 64-bit Windows
The current Steam application is 64-bit. SEGA’s support notice, updated January 6, 2023, said the Steam version update was scheduled for January 19, 2023 and that a 64-bit Windows OS would be required. SEGA stated: “Once the game application is updated, 32-bit versions of Persona 4 Golden will no longer be playable.” The notice said existing save data was expected to be unaffected. If slowdowns happen only in cinematics
Do not assume the graphics adjustments above will fix stutter limited to cinematics. The available evidence does not establish a current fix that applies to every system. Treat it as a separate issue and consult current game-specific support guidance.

What the published performance test does—and does not—show
In its 2020 launch-era test, PC Gamer reported more than 60 fps at 5120×2880 (200% native rendering scale on its monitor) using an Intel i7-6700K and NVIDIA GTX 980. That result describes one publication test on specified hardware; it is not a prediction for other PCs or a benchmark of the current build.
