To remove and re-add a Matter accessory, remove it from its tile in the Home app, reset it using the manufacturer’s instructions, then add it through Home’s Add Accessory flow. Removing it from Home does not necessarily reset the device or erase its Matter access from other apps.

Remove the accessory from the Home app

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone or iPad and select the accessory.

  2. Open the accessory’s settings, scroll down, and tap Remove Accessory. Apple’s unresponsive accessory instructions say to remove it through the manufacturer’s app if this option does not appear in Home.

  3. Follow the manufacturer’s reset instructions for the exact make and model. Removing the Home tile alone may not reset the accessory. Apple advises resetting the accessory after removal before adding it to Home again.

    • [Smart IR Blaster with Feedback and Learning] The 360°IR blaster not only sends commands but also provides accurate status updates by detecting traditional remote use. It connects IR air conditioning units to Matter, functioning as an AC thermostat when paired with an Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor. (Note: Only one AC device can be exposed to Matter. Functionality may vary based on the Matter integration app. For Apple Home exposure, use Matter integration instead of HomeKit.)

    • [Privacy-Focused with Encrypted Storage, Easy Setup and Versatile Placement] The M3 prioritizes privacy by excluding microphone or camera components. It boasts 8GB end-to-end encrypted local storage, for device lists, configuration parameters, and automation configuration data. Additionally, it includes a mount and screws for flexible placement on flat surfaces, walls, or ceilings. Magic Pair technology ensures effortless detection by the Aqara Home app upon power-up.

Know what you are removing before changing Matter access

Removing an accessory from its Home tile is different from changing its Matter records or access in Settings. Apple’s Matter management instructions describe these options under Settings > General > Matter Accessories:

  • Remove from an individual connected service: removes control from the app associated with that service.

  • Remove from all connected services: affects every associated app, not just Apple Home.

  • Remove the record from iCloud Keychain: removes the Matter information stored there. This is distinct from removing the accessory tile in Home.

Aqara Smart Hub M100 for Home Automation, Matter Controller, Wi-Fi
    • Multi-Protocol Smart Hub with Matter Bridge – The M100 is a versatile smart hub compatible with Thread devices and Aqara Zigbee (** Not third-party Zigbee devices), supporting up to 20 Aqara Zigbee devices and 20 Thread devices. As a Matter Bridge, it connects Aqara Zigbee products to other smart home ecosystems, compatible with Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Home Assistant, etc. Note: Use a 5V⎓0.5A power adapter (not included) and keep the product continuously powered during use.
    • Advanced Matter Bridging for Seamless Smart Home Integration – The M100 enables Aqara’s unique features, such as facial recognition and complex automation, to work across Home Assistant and other Matter ecosystems. Expand your smart home with Aqara or third-party Matter devices (requires a Matter-enabled hub). Currently supports lights, thermostats, plugs, switches, buttons, and various sensors (motion, light, door/window, temperature/humidity), with more devices to be added in the future.
    • Local Automation for Reliable Performance – Supports local execution of automations for Zigbee and Matter devices, ensuring smooth operation even without Wi-Fi or cloud access. Enjoy millisecond-level response times for a more stable and reliable smart home experience. (Some automation, such as cloud push notification, will still require the cloud connection to be executed.)
    • Flexible Power & Small Size – Features a universal USB-A port for power and data, allowing connection to power banks, wall outlets, PCs, or routers for a simple and quick setup. The Hub M100's shaft can be adjusted within a 210-degree range, making its placement extremely flexible.
    • 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 6 for Faster & Security—This product supports a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi 6 wireless network connection, which enables more efficient connections with advanced WPA3 security. Wi-Fi 6 ensures smoother performance even in high-traffic environments, allowing multiple devices to connect without compromising speed or reliability. Note: To ensure a stable connection, place the Hub M100 between 6 to 19 feet from the router.

Use the narrowest option that addresses the problem. Removing access from all services or deleting the Keychain record has broader effects than removing the accessory from the current Home setup.

Add the accessory to Apple Home again

  1. Open Home, tap Add, then tap Add Accessory.

  2. If the Matter accessory was previously paired to another app, tap More options and select the accessory when it appears.

  3. Follow the onscreen instructions. When setup completes, assign the accessory a room and name. See Apple’s Home accessory setup guidance for the general flow.

If Home cannot add the accessory

Use the message Home displays to guide the next step. Apple’s Matter pairing troubleshooting guidance and Home accessory troubleshooting steps recommend checking setup conditions and the accessory’s own requirements.

Does Matter require an Apple home hub?

Not for every supported setup. Apple says an iPhone running iOS 18 or later can add and control Matter accessories in Home without a home hub, while recommending a hub for the best experience. Thread accessories have separate requirements: Apple identifies Thread-enabled hubs or compatible third-party Thread border routers, and local Thread pairing support depends on the supported iPhone and software combination. See Apple’s Matter accessory guidance for current details.

Extra steps for an unresponsive Thread accessory

For an unresponsive third-party Thread accessory, Apple’s Thread troubleshooting instructions say to disconnect its power for 5 minutes, reconnect it, then wait 10 minutes for the Thread network to stabilize.
