Use the official USPS Find USPS Locations tool to find a nearby Post Office and verify its hours. Search by city and state, ZIP Code, street address, or current location; then select Post Office if you need a staffed retail counter. Open a result’s details and check the hours for the day and service you need before you go.
Find nearby Post Offices in the USPS locator
- Open the USPS location finder.
- Enter a city and state, ZIP Code, or street address, or select Use Current Location if available.
- Choose Post Office as the location type, then run the search. The locator’s default radius is 10 miles; adjust the distance or sort the results if needed.
- Review the nearby locations and open the result that best fits your trip.
Check the hours for the day and service you need
Open the selected location’s details and look for its hours and service information. The locator offers filters for weekday hours after 5 p.m., Saturday hours, Sunday hours, and 24-hour facilities. Use the day and time filters to narrow the options, then confirm the individual location’s details before leaving.
Hours may be listed in separate periods when a counter closes and reopens during the day. The USPS locator guide gives an example of a location open from 8 a.m. to noon and again from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; its documentation says, “If the facility closes for lunch, two sets of Open and Close times will be returned.” USPS Web Tools User Guide
Choose the right type of location
Nearby results may include more than full Post Offices. USPS describes a Post Office as staffed by a USPS employee and having retail window service hours. Other location types may have different or more limited services, so choose according to what you need rather than distance alone.
#1 Best Overall
- Post Office: Choose this type when you need a staffed retail counter.
- National Retailer: A retailer may sell stamps and offer some mailing services.
- Village Post Office: Offers a limited selection of postal products and services.
- Contract Postal Unit: A postal unit located inside an existing business.
- Self-service kiosk: An option for certain self-service transactions, not a staffed retail counter.
The locator also has filters for particular services, including passport appointments and pickup options. If one of those is the reason for your visit, check that the selected location offers it rather than assuming every nearby result does.
Distinguish lobby access from counter hours
Some Post Offices have after-hours lobbies with self-service kiosks and PO Box access. An open lobby does not mean the retail counter is open. Check the specific facility’s details for the relevant service and hours, especially if you need help from an employee or retail window service.

If no suitable result appears
- Try a broader search, such as a ZIP Code or nearby city, or increase the search distance.
- Check whether the location-type or hours filters are excluding results; adjust them if necessary.
- Consider another location type only if it provides the service you need.
- For help finding a location, USPS lists 1-800-ASK-USPS (800-275-8777).
Specific hours, lobby access, and services can change. Recheck the live USPS locator before leaving.
