One important correction: the current iPad Pro is the OLED device in this comparison. Apple describes iPadOS as supporting multiple resizable windows and split-screen layouts. That gives the iPad useful multitasking features, but it does not prove that every desktop workflow or app feature is available. Apple’s description is a vendor statement, not an independent equivalence test. Apple’s iPad Pro product page describes these productivity features.
- Choose iPad Pro when sketching, handwritten notes, markup, or touch-based creative work is central.
- Before relying on it as your only computer, confirm that your required apps and features are available in the iPad versions.
- If typing is a major part of the work, include the cost and compatibility of a separate keyboard in your setup decision.
What the OLED difference does—and does not—tell you
Apple lists the iPad Pro display as Tandem OLED. Its current specifications state 1000 nits maximum SDR brightness, 1600 nits peak brightness for HDR content only, and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements comparing it with a MacBook Pro display.

MacBook Pro’s current display is specified as Liquid Retina XDR, not OLED. The display labels alone do not establish a universal visual winner: that would require a direct comparison under defined viewing conditions and criteria. Pick based on the work features you need rather than treating “OLED” as a verdict about overall work suitability.
