As of October 4, 2026, Samsung Gallery no longer syncs directly with OneDrive: Microsoft ended that integration on September 30, 2026. For a new setup, choose among Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync with a Google Account, backup in the Google Photos app, or OneDrive camera backup in the OneDrive Android app. Your best fit depends on whether you value Samsung Gallery integration, Google Photos’ backup controls, or keeping your photo library with Microsoft.

Choose based on how you want to access and protect your photos

Option How it works Best fit
Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync with Google Sync selected media from Samsung Gallery to your Google Account so Samsung apps can access it. Google says it uses original quality and Google Account storage. Google explains Samsung Gallery sync. You want selected Gallery media tied to a Google Account and accept that deletions sync across the linked services.
Google Photos app backup Back up device photos and videos through Google Photos, with its own folder, status, and mobile-data controls. Google’s Android backup instructions cover this workflow. You want to manage backup inside Google Photos, including which device folders are included.
OneDrive Android camera backup Upload camera photos and videos through the OneDrive Android app. Samsung Gallery’s former direct OneDrive sync ended September 30, 2026; Microsoft’s transition notice says existing OneDrive files remain accessible there. Your library or storage is already with Microsoft, and you are comfortable using OneDrive rather than Samsung Gallery to manage uploads.

These options are not identical copies of one feature. Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync links selected Gallery media to a Google Account; Google Photos backup is controlled in the Google Photos app; OneDrive camera backup uploads through OneDrive. The reviewed Google instructions do not promise that your entire Google Photos library will appear in Samsung Gallery.

Know what happens when you delete a photo

Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync and Google

This is a sync relationship, not an independent archive. Google says deleting a synced item in Samsung Gallery or Google Photos removes it from the other app and cloud storage. If your goal is to keep a second copy even after deleting a phone photo, do not treat this sync as that separate copy. Check Google’s Gallery sync details before removing synced items.

Google Photos app backup

Google documents an “Undo device backup” option and a separate cloud deletion workflow. Before deleting cloud items that you want to keep on a device, make sure backup is off on that device and follow Google’s current instructions. Google’s Android backup help explains the controls.

OneDrive camera backup

The old Samsung Gallery connection no longer displays OneDrive cloud photos in Gallery. Microsoft says the existing OneDrive library remains unchanged and accessible through OneDrive. Treat new camera uploads as a OneDrive-app workflow, and verify the files in OneDrive before deleting phone originals. Read Microsoft’s transition details.

Set up and verify the option you choose

For Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync with Google

  1. In Samsung Gallery, open its settings and look for the option to sync Gallery with your Google Account. Availability and exact labels can vary by phone, app version, and rollout.
  2. Choose the albums or device folders to sync. Google says you can select particular albums and stop syncing the main camera roll while continuing selected folders.
  3. Review the deletion behavior and storage implications before enabling sync. Synced media uses Google Account storage at original quality.
  4. After setup, confirm that the intended media appears in the linked services before relying on it as your only copy.

Samsung Gallery-synced items may not appear in Google Photos features such as Search, Memories, and Live albums unless you also back them up through Google Photos. Enabling that separate backup is a different workflow and can affect storage use.

For Google Photos app backup

  1. Open Google Photos, sign in to the Google Account you intend to use, and open the app’s backup settings.
  2. Turn on Backup, choose the upload quality, and select which device folders to include. Check whether newly created device folders should be backed up automatically.
  3. Review available Google Account storage and the app’s mobile-data settings. Account storage and local plan availability vary; use the in-account storage or plan screen for current details.
  4. Wait for Google Photos to report “Backup complete.” Open an individual photo or video and check its backup status before deleting a local original.

For OneDrive camera backup

  1. Open OneDrive on the phone and sign in to the Microsoft account where you want the uploads stored.
  2. Enable Camera backup and grant OneDrive permission to access photos and videos. Check that the permission includes all the items you intend to upload.
  3. Review camera-backup settings for video uploads and any additional device folders you want included, such as social-media or editing folders.
  4. Confirm that the account has available storage, then leave the phone connected with the app able to upload. Connectivity, battery and data settings, app state, and quota can affect background uploads.
  5. Check OneDrive itself for recent photos and videos before relying on the backup or removing local files. Microsoft’s OneDrive for Android instructions cover the camera-backup workflow.

Check storage and Samsung Cloud before committing

Google Gallery sync uses Google Account storage, and Google Photos backup also depends on the Google Account’s available space and the quality setting you select. OneDrive camera backup depends on the storage available in the Microsoft account. The official help pages reviewed do not establish one price or quota that applies to every region and account, so check the storage and plan screens in your own accounts before choosing.

Samsung Cloud should not be assumed to be a universal photo-library replacement. Samsung describes it as supporting selected device sync and backup/restore categories, with supported content varying by device and operating system. Check the backup categories shown on your particular phone. Samsung’s overview of Samsung Cloud describes the service.
