The reference GeForce RTX 5060 is rated for 145 W of total graphics power (TGP), while NVIDIA lists a 550 W power supply as the required system power. That 550 W recommendation is based on a PC with a Ryzen 9 9950X, and NVIDIA cautions that power needs vary by system. Whether your PSU is suitable also depends on the rest of your PC and the power connector required by your exact RTX 5060 card.

RTX 5060 power requirements at a glance

Specification RTX 5060 reference specification What it means
Total graphics power (TGP) 145 W The listed power for the graphics card; it is not the recommended PSU capacity.
Required system power 550 W NVIDIA’s system-level recommendation, based on a stated test configuration rather than a guarantee for every PC.
Supplemental power connection One PCIe 8-pin cable or a 300 W-or-greater PCIe Gen 5 cable Use the connection specified for the exact card and follow its installation instructions.

These are NVIDIA’s figures for the Founders Edition or reference design. Specifications and shipping requirements may differ among add-in-card manufacturers. See NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5060 family specifications and confirm the requirements for your specific card.

Why NVIDIA recommends a 550 W PSU

The RTX 5060’s 145 W TGP describes the graphics card, while 550 W refers to the recommended power capacity for the complete PC. The two figures measure different things: a system PSU must power the processor, graphics card, and other components together, not just the GPU.

NVIDIA says its 550 W minimum is based on a PC configured with a Ryzen 9 9950X. The company also says system power needs can differ depending on configuration. Treat 550 W as NVIDIA’s published baseline, not a personalized guarantee that every 550 W PSU will work in every computer.

Check whether your PSU can handle your RTX 5060

  1. Identify the exact graphics card. Find the manufacturer and full model name, then check its current specifications and installation guide. Board-partner versions can have different shipping specifications from NVIDIA’s reference design.
  2. Check the PSU’s rated output and cables. Read the unit’s label or manual to confirm its rated capacity and the PCIe power leads it provides. Compare those with the exact card’s stated connector requirements.
  3. Confirm the connection instructions. NVIDIA lists one PCIe 8-pin cable or a 300 W-or-greater PCIe Gen 5 cable for its reference specification. Follow the exact card and PSU manufacturers’ instructions for the connection; do not assume an adapter or cable is suitable without checking their documentation.
  4. Consider the whole PC. Account for the processor and the rest of the system, rather than comparing the PSU only with the GPU’s 145 W TGP. NVIDIA’s 550 W baseline uses a Ryzen 9 9950X configuration, and its stated requirement can vary with system configuration.

If you cannot verify the PSU’s output, the available cables, or the exact card’s requirements, there is not enough information to give a definite compatibility verdict. Check the manufacturers’ documentation before installing the card.

Keep RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti requirements separate

The RTX 5060 Ti is a different model, with its own figures in NVIDIA’s product specifications. NVIDIA lists 180 W TGP and 600 W required system power for the RTX 5060 Ti; those numbers do not apply to the RTX 5060.
