Roku’s US product page displayed $79.99 when accessed in 2026. Treat that as a dated page snapshot, not a guaranteed current price or lowest available price; pricing and availability can differ by market. Roku identifies the device as model 3820R2. Its 4K and HDR features require compatible content and equipment, including a 4K TV with an HDMI input supporting HDCP 2.2.
Best wired-network box: Google TV Streamer (4K)
Google specifies up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, 32 GB of storage, and built-in Ethernet. It also positions the device as a Google Home and Matter hub, with Thread built in. Google Store comparison content displayed $149.99 when accessed in 2026; check the live store for current pricing and local availability.

This is a box, not a stick. Its Ethernet and storage may matter more than its larger footprint if you want a wired network connection or space for apps. Google’s 4K setup guidance applies to this model as well as Chromecast with Google TV (4K) and Chromecast Ultra.
Best fit for Apple households: Apple TV 4K
Apple lists SDR/HEVC video up to 2160p at 60 fps, Dolby Vision up to 2160p at 60 fps, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Atmos. Apple says 4K or HDR streaming requires a compatible 4K and HDR television. An HDMI cable is not included and is sold separately. The Apple product specification page consulted did not establish a current US price, so check Apple or a retailer for a live price.

For local playback formats and upscaling: NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro
NVIDIA lists Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10, AI-enhanced upscaling up to 4K at 60 fps, and playback support for formats including H.265/HEVC, VP8, VP9, and H.264. Those capabilities make it a candidate if local playback formats or upscaling are priorities. The listed specifications alone do not establish that it is the best value, newest platform, or fastest device for streaming apps.
For Roku with Ethernet or USB: Roku Ultra
Roku’s specifications for model 4850R list 4K, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet, USB local playback, and a Voice Remote Pro. Choose it over the Roku stick if those box-style features suit your setup; it is not as compact as a stick.

What to know about Amazon’s current 4K Stick names
Amazon’s official device index consulted in 2026 listed the 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and 4K Select, alongside the Fire TV Stick 4K and 4K Max from 2023 and older generations. A report published near October 4, 2026 described Amazon’s announcement of a new Fire TV Stick 4K with Vega OS, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, 8 GB storage, 4K/60 output, and HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. The report gave a regular US price of $59.99 and attributed the described speed improvements to Amazon, not independent testing.
Because the Amazon index consulted did not yet list this newly announced model, confirm its release status and exact retail name on Amazon before buying. Do not confuse it with the 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K or the 2025 4K Plus and 4K Select.

Check your complete setup before expecting 4K
A 4K label on a streamer does not guarantee 4K playback. The device, TV, HDMI connection, program, streaming service, and internet connection all need to support the format you want. Google recommends at least 20 Mbps for its stated 4K setup; that is a recommendation, not a guarantee of smooth playback under every network condition.
Quick Recap
- TV and HDMI: Google calls for a compatible 4K TV and HDMI port supporting HDCP 2.2 and 60 fps. If the signal passes through an AV receiver or soundbar, that device must also support HDCP 2.2. Roku likewise specifies a compatible 4K TV with an HDCP 2.2-capable HDMI input for 4K.
- Cable: Google recommends a high-speed HDMI cable shorter than six feet for its stated setup. Apple says its Apple TV 4K package does not include an HDMI cable; it is sold separately.
- Program and subscription: The title must be available in 4K or the relevant HDR format, and your service plan may need to include 4K. Roku notes that 4K/HDR content availability and additional payment can vary.
- HDR format: Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG are distinct formats. Check the exact formats supported by your TV and the service’s content; a device listing a format does not mean every TV or program supports it.
How to make the choice
- Decide on form: If you want a compact HDMI stick, start with Roku Streaming Stick 4K. If Ethernet, storage, or USB playback matters, compare the box options.
- Match the ecosystem: Consider whether Roku, Google TV, Apple TV, or NVIDIA’s platform fits the devices and services you already use. Verify local app availability before purchase.
- Check the formats and connection: Match the streamer’s listed HDR formats to your TV, and confirm HDMI/HDCP compatibility. Choose built-in Ethernet if you specifically want a wired connection.
- Verify live pricing and model name: The cited prices are dated US page snapshots, and Amazon’s newly announced 2026 model may not yet be reflected in its device index. Check current listings in your region.
