When eIQnetworks announced SecureVue NGS on September 26, 2012, it said the SIEM software could be deployed in one hour. That was the company’s claim, not an independently tested time for every organization. The hour covered downloading and installing the software, registering it, and connecting selected IT assets; broader onboarding and policy tuning could follow.

What eIQnetworks said the hour included

In its 2012 report, SecurityWeek quoted eIQnetworks vice president, chief security and compliance officer John Linkous describing a customized deployment process. The stated sequence ran from download through registration and installation to connecting the software to selected IT assets, including Windows and Linux hosts, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and vulnerability scanners.

That scope matters: the claim concerned an initial deployment and connection of chosen sources, not a promise that every system in an organization would be onboarded or that useful monitoring would require no further configuration.

What could happen after initial deployment

Linkous said administrators could further customize and tune policies. SecurityWeek reported that SecureVue NGS came with more than 50 common alert and monitoring policies, alongside wizards and an expression builder for customization. Those were company-described features, not a measurement of how much work each organization would need.

FortiGate-40F Firewall Appliance - 5 Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 Ports, Ideal for Small Businesses (Appliance Only, No Subscription) (FG-40F)
  • Compact and Efficient Design: The FortiGate 40F is designed for small to mid-sized businesses and enterprise branch offices, featuring a compact, fanless desktop form factor that ensures quiet operation and minimizes space usage.
  • Robust Connectivity Options: Equipped with 5 GE RJ45 ports, including 1 WAN port and 4 internal ports, this model provides essential connectivity and flexibility for various network configurations in a small-scale environment.
  • High-Performance Security: Offers up to 1 Gbps IPS throughput and 600 Mbps threat protection throughput, using Fortinet’s purpose-built security processor technology to deliver industry-leading performance and protection for SSL encrypted traffic.
  • Advanced Threat Protection: Integrated with Fortinet’s AI-powered FortiGuard Labs, the FortiGate 40F offers comprehensive cybersecurity, identifying and mitigating both known and unknown threats to maintain robust security across your network.
  • Simplified Management and Deployment: Features a user-friendly management console that provides comprehensive network automation and visibility, coupled with Zero Touch Integration with Fortinet’s Security Fabric for easy deployment.

The article said most organizations should expect additional tuning and broader onboarding after the initial deployment. A one-hour installation therefore should not be read as a one-hour path to complete coverage: the number of assets, policy adjustments, and monitoring needs beyond the initial connections would affect the work still to be done.

What SecureVue NGS was described as doing

eIQnetworks described SecureVue NGS as a next-generation SIEM combining log management, event management, network behavioral analysis, and security search. The company also said it could centralize, encrypt, normalize, and categorize security logs and events, with compliance and threat detection among the intended use cases. These are descriptions reported in 2012, not independently verified performance findings or current product specifications.

FortiGate-60F Network Security Appliance Plus 1 Year FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection (UTP) and FortiCare Premium (FG-60F-BDL-950-12)
  • HARDWARE PLUS SECURITY SERVICES: FortiGate-60F Firewall Appliance bundled with 1 year of FortiCare Premium and FortiGuard Unified Threat Protection.
  • UNIFIED THREAT PROTECTION (UTP): Secures against advanced online threats with comprehensive web filtering and anti-botnet technologies.
  • OPTIMIZED FOR MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES: Tailored for businesses needing robust security without the infrastructure of larger enterprises.
  • RELIABLE CUSTOMER SUPPORT: FortiCare Premium ensures high-quality support and service continuity.
  • EFFECTIVE PROTECTION: Employs advanced filtering technologies to safeguard against sophisticated threats.

Linkous also said the software accepted external threat feeds but did not include an out-of-the-box feed, because some customers already licensed third-party threat data. Organizations considering the 2012 offering would therefore have needed to account for their own threat-feed arrangements if they wanted to use that input.

One customer’s reported experience

SecurityWeek also quoted Crossbeam Systems network security manager Dan Swanson, who said his organization brought critical servers, applications, and network security devices onboard within an hour. That is a customer’s account of one deployment, not a controlled test or evidence that another organization would achieve the same result.

Historical price and later product context

SecurityWeek reported in 2012 that SecureVue NGS started at $12,595 for a 25-node license, including one year of maintenance and support. That is historical pricing, not a current quote.

A Common Criteria validation report covers SecureVue version 3.6.3 CP1 and describes a platform combining security information management with governance, risk, and compliance capabilities. The report cautions that validation is not government endorsement and carries no warranty. EiQ Networks announcements in 2015 described compliance-mapping capabilities and a Digital Planet selection of SecureVue; these are historical vendor announcements, not independent evaluations.
