Meta describes this as product-finding help, but it does not publish a universal shopping-chat interface or guarantee that every account will see the same features. Treat suggestions as a starting point, and check the seller’s listing before buying.
How to ask Meta AI for product suggestions in Instagram
Meta’s current Meta AI product page says the assistant is built into Instagram and can help people shop for products. Meta gives examples such as finding a mug, styling a room, or completing an outfit. The precise controls and responses can vary; the public description does not establish a fixed sequence of buttons that appears for every user.

- Open Meta AI in Instagram if it is available in your app. Use the Meta AI entry point shown in your version of Instagram; its exact placement and label are not established as universal.
- Describe what you want to find. Name the product category and intended use. For example, ask for ideas for a desk lamp for a small home office rather than simply asking for “a lamp.”
- Add constraints that matter. Include your budget, preferred style, size, compatibility needs, or location when those affect the choice.
- Ask for a short list or a comparison. Follow up with questions about differences between the options, and clarify any requirement the first answer misses.
- Verify details with the seller before purchasing. Check the product page for current price and availability, specifications, delivery terms, return policy, and recent reviews.
Meta AI product discovery is not a substitute for independent product testing. A suggestion does not establish that Meta has tested an item or that its price, stock, fit, or quality is current.
Why a product may appear: chat suggestions and Instagram discovery are different
A direct question to Meta AI and a product surfaced while browsing Instagram are not necessarily the same recommendation experience. They differ in how you express interest and in the signals Meta has documented:

Meta’s Social Commerce system card describes machine-learning recommendations that group visually similar purchasable products and use patterns in public creator and business posts to surface relevant items in feeds. It also says some shopping experiences may combine AI output with fashion-team curation; the card says editorial curation is disclosed in module titles. The card was last updated November 15, 2022, so it documents that system’s described mechanics, not a guarantee of today’s exact Instagram interface.
How Meta says AI conversations can affect recommendations
Meta’s October 2025 announcement about AI and recommendations says conversations and voice interactions with its AI features can help personalize content and ads. Meta’s example: asking Meta AI about hiking could lead to hiking-related posts, groups, or ads for hiking boots. That describes personalization based on an interaction; it does not establish that every shopping question will produce a product carousel.

Meta said the change was scheduled to take effect December 16, 2025. The company also says people can use feed controls and Ads Preferences to adjust content and ads, that conversations about specified sensitive topics are not used to show ads, and that personalization across accounts depends on which accounts are connected in Accounts Center. These are Meta’s stated policies; consult the announcement and Instagram’s current controls for the details applicable to your account.

Meta’s public product description does not establish that Meta AI or shopping suggestions are available to every Instagram account, app version, or region. If you cannot find the assistant or receive product suggestions, the available sources do not establish a universal eligibility rule or a single fix. Check that Instagram is updated, look for the Meta AI entry point available in your app, and consult Instagram’s in-app help or current product information rather than relying on instructions for a different account or version.

Meta announced creator product-linking and affiliate features in March 2026, including plans to expand business product links and test creator partnerships in specified markets. These are creator and business commerce programs, not prerequisites for asking Meta AI for product suggestions. Meta’s announcement does not make those programs a guarantee of consumer shopping-chat availability.
