Crimson Moon lists full controller support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers, but that does not guarantee every setup or button layout will work without problems. Start by identifying whether your issue is detection, button mapping, menu input, or the ergonomics of your chosen layout. Then check the game’s current build and official issue notices; if it persists, report the reproducible problem to the developer.
Identify what is going wrong
Different controller symptoms call for different information. Before changing settings, note what happens and when:
- No input: The game does not respond to the controller.
- Wrong prompts or buttons: The controller works, but the displayed buttons or actions do not match your setup.
- Menu-only trouble: Gameplay input works, but a menu—such as the key-remap screen—does not respond normally.
- Awkward layout: The game responds, but a chosen button assignment makes another action difficult to use.
Steam lists full controller support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers and says the developers recommend playing with a controller. That establishes intended support, not a guarantee that every configuration is trouble-free.
Check the game build and official issue notices
- Update Crimson Moon through Steam. The developer has published input-adjacent fixes, so use the latest build available to you before troubleshooting an older one.
- Review the official news and patch notes and the Known Issues page. Look for a notice that matches your specific symptom, rather than assuming an unrelated fix applies.
- Compare your installed version with the notice. The notes identify an earlier issue where a controller could not exit the key-remap screen. That fix is relevant to a similar menu problem; it does not establish a general fix for controllers the game does not detect.
Check the status of controller remapping
Remapping availability depends on the game update. In a developer announcement, controller button remapping was moved from Hotfix 1.0.2 to Patch 1.1, alongside planned controller-customization work. The announcement is a dated status, not proof that the feature is present in every current installation. Check the latest announcement and your installed build before relying on remapping.

Separate a layout problem from a detection fault
One player in the Steam support discussion reported difficulty turning the camera while sprint was assigned to Circle/B: pressing that button made it hard to keep a thumb on the right stick. This is an individual report about using that layout, not a confirmed game-wide defect or a diagnosis of controller detection.
If your controller is detected and the problem occurs only with a particular assignment, describe the buttons involved and the action that becomes difficult. If there is no input at all, report it as a detection or response problem instead; the available official guidance does not confirm one universal fix for that symptom.

Report an unresolved or reproducible issue
The developer’s support discussion directs players to the Known Issues page and its support site for technical reports. Use the official support route if the problem remains or you can reproduce it. Include enough detail for the developer to distinguish your setup and symptom:
- Your operating system and platform.
- Controller make and model, and whether it is connected by cable or wirelessly.
- The game version or build you are running.
- The exact symptom and the menu or gameplay situation where it occurs.
- Steps to reproduce the problem, including any relevant button assignments.
These details are useful context for a report; they are not a published list of required fields. The official material does not verify a particular Steam Input toggle, driver reinstall, replacement controller, cable, adapter, or repair tool as a Crimson Moon fix, so do not treat any of those as a confirmed solution.
