Aembit announced its public launch and a $16.6 million seed round on March 20, 2023. Ballistic Ventures and Ten Eleven Ventures participated in the financing. The company said it would use the investment to accelerate product development and go-to-market efforts. The announcement is a historical funding story; it does not establish Aembit’s current financing, pricing, or customer numbers.
What is workload IAM?
Workload IAM means managing the identities and access permissions of software, rather than only human users. A workload is a non-human application or program that uses computing resources to perform a task. Examples include a microservice calling another service, a CI/CD job reaching a cloud API, a database client, or a serverless function. Aembit’s current documentation also includes AI agents in its description of workloads.
The practical issue is that software routinely needs to connect to other software and infrastructure. Those connections may involve APIs, databases, cloud resources, or SaaS services. Like employee access, machine-to-machine access needs a way to establish who or what is requesting access, what it is allowed to do, and how that access can be reviewed.
Aembit describes its platform as applying workload identity and access management across cloud, on-premises, and SaaS environments. Its launch materials framed the problem as managing access rather than managing secrets alone. These are the company’s descriptions of its product, not independent validation of its security or effectiveness.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How do workloads access APIs and databases securely?
A common challenge is that a workload needs credentials—such as an API key or password—to connect to another system. If credentials are static or broadly shared, they can be difficult to rotate and may grant access beyond what a particular workload needs. Workload IAM aims to tie access to a verifiable workload identity and enforce permissions for that identity.
- Verify the workload. The system establishes the identity of the application, service, job, or other program requesting access.
- Evaluate its access policy. The system checks whether that workload is permitted to reach the requested resource, potentially using contextual signals as part of the decision.
- Provide authorized access. Aembit says its approach uses short-lived credentials rather than relying on static secrets.
- Record and review access. Aembit describes capabilities for enforcing and auditing access between workloads and the services they depend on.
This summarizes Aembit’s stated approach; the available launch and product materials do not constitute an independent security assessment or establish that every integration works the same way.

What does Aembit do?
Aembit says its platform discovers, manages, enforces, and audits access between federated workloads and the services they use, including APIs, databases, and cloud resources. In practical terms, it is intended to help organizations govern connections where software communicates with other software, instead of treating every connection as an unmanaged secret to distribute.
At the 2023 launch, Aembit said its product was generally available. That was a company-reported statement about availability at the time, not confirmation of current commercial terms. Current Aembit materials describe identity verification, policy decisions, short-lived credentials, and audit records as elements of its offering; those capability descriptions remain vendor claims rather than independently tested results.

AI agents are current context, not part of the 2023 funding announcement
Aembit’s current materials extend its workload identity and policy framing to AI agents, describing identity verification, short-lived credentials, runtime policy enforcement, and audit records for them. Those present-day product descriptions should not be read back into the March 2023 announcement, which concerned workload IAM and did not announce AI-agent controls.
Who invested in Aembit?
Aembit’s March 20, 2023 announcement named Ballistic Ventures and Ten Eleven Ventures as investors in its $16.6 million seed financing. It said the funds would accelerate product development and go-to-market activity. Aembit’s launch announcement also quoted Jake Seid, co-founder and general partner of Ballistic Ventures, saying: “The mesh of workload-to-workload connections created when software talks to software need to be identified, secured and managed.” That is Seid’s perspective as quoted in the company-issued release.

Contemporaneous TechCrunch coverage described Aembit as a Maryland-based security startup founded by David Goldschlag and Kevin Sapp. It reported that the company planned to expand marketing and build out the product after the financing. Those were plans reported at launch, not evidence that the hiring or product-development plans were subsequently completed.
