Yes—install browser updates rather than relying on the original Chrome 123 or Firefox 124 release. Google and Mozilla issued security fixes in March 2024, including follow-up updates that must be distinguished from the first releases. Those version numbers are historical, not a sign of current protection in October 2026; check your browser’s built-in update screen for the version currently offered to your device.

What Chrome 123 fixed—and why there were two March updates

Google announced Chrome 123 for the stable channel on March 19, 2024. The announcement listed version 123.0.6312.58 for Linux and 123.0.6312.58/.59 for Windows and Mac, with a staged rollout over the coming days and weeks. Google said that initial release included 12 security fixes. Google’s March 19 Chrome release announcement

A separate desktop update followed on March 26. It moved Windows and Mac to versions 123.0.6312.86/.87 and Linux to 123.0.6312.86, and included seven security fixes. Google’s release post states: “This update includes 7 security fixes.” The post does not identify an individual speaker. Google’s March 26 Chrome release announcement

That later post highlighted critical CVE-2024-2883, a use-after-free vulnerability in ANGLE, as well as high-severity issues affecting Dawn, WebCodecs and WebAssembly. The 12 fixes announced on March 19 and the seven announced on March 26 belong to separate updates; they should not be described as a single release count.

What Firefox 124 and 124.0.1 addressed

Firefox 124 first reached release-channel users on March 19, 2024. Mozilla rated the issues listed in its advisory high impact. Among them, CVE-2024-2605 involved Windows Error Reporter as a possible sandbox escape vector and applied to Windows; CVE-2024-2606 concerned mishandled WebAssembly register values. Mozilla’s Firefox 124 security advisory

Mozilla released Firefox 124.0.1 on March 22 and rated that advisory’s impact critical. It documented CVE-2024-29943, an out-of-bounds access issue, and CVE-2024-29944, involving privileged JavaScript execution via event handlers. Mozilla specifies that CVE-2024-29944 affects desktop Firefox, not mobile versions. Mozilla’s Firefox 124.0.1 security advisory

What to do if you still see one of these versions

  1. Open the browser’s built-in About or update screen and let it check for updates. Use the update channel provided by Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox rather than treating a March 2024 version as current.
  2. Install the update offered for your device and follow any prompt to restart the browser.
  3. Reopen the update screen to confirm the browser reports that it is up to date. Exact menus and available versions can change, so follow the labels shown in your installed browser.

Google’s and Mozilla’s release notes describe the historical versions and fixes; they do not establish that those versions remain current or protected today. For Chrome’s original release, see the March 19 announcement; for the follow-up, see the March 26 announcement. Mozilla’s Firefox 124 release notes and Firefox 124.0.1 release notes cover those releases.
