To complete “Practicum in Advanced Alchemy” in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, find the druid Gremist at Gedyneith on Ard Skellig, complete his three favors—find pimpernel, obtain Skellige Spirit, and protect Fritjof—then wait 24 hours and speak to Gremist again. The favors can be done in any order.
How to start the quest
Gremist is at Gedyneith, the sacred oak on Ard Skellig. One route is to listen to the druids there, ask a less senior druid about Gremist, then speak with Gremist and ask him to teach you alchemy. He initially refuses, but offers an apprenticeship test consisting of three favors.
You can also be directed to him by an herbalist at a hut northeast of Oxenfurt. Ask about advanced alchemy formulae. Alternatively, you may encounter Gremist directly on Ard Skellig.
Complete Gremist’s three favors
The tasks can be completed in any order. All three take place on Ard Skellig.

Find pimpernel in Morskogen Forest
- Go to Morskogen Forest and use Witcher Senses to inspect the plants.
- If the first plant has already been picked, follow the hoofprints to Ramund and the succubus.
- Choose how to handle the encounter: the accompanying druid wants to kill the succubus, but you can refuse and follow her to her cave. If she is killed, use the scent trail to locate the cave.
- Pick up the pimpernel inside the cave.
Both documented routes lead to the cave and the pimpernel. The available guides do not establish whether the choice affects later quest outcomes or rewards.
Get Skellige Spirit from the distillery on Hail Hill
- Travel to the old distillery on Hail Hill and clear the enemies.
- Search the sleeping quarters for the Distiller’s Letter.
- Find the mash above the evaporator and put it into the machine.
- Light the fire with Igni or use the interaction prompt.
- Cool the condenser by pulling its right lever first, then its left lever.
- Collect the Skellige Spirit from the barrel beside the condenser.
Protect Fritjof near Blandare
- Find Fritjof on the western side of Blandare.
- Agree to protect him while he performs his rain ritual.
- Defeat the foglets that appear while he casts.
How to finish and what you receive
After all three favors are complete, return to Gremist. He asks you to wait 24 hours while he and Fritjof perform the ritual. Advance the time, return to Gremist, and speak with him to complete the quest.

GameBanshee’s walkthrough reports 80 XP for each favor and the final step. It also lists the final reward as five each of Alcohest, Han Fiber, Saltpeter, and Sulfur. These are guide-reported in-game values; an official publisher reward table was not located. If your quest journal or game version differs, use the in-game entry as the authority.
