The September SwiftUI changes include ArrangementView, while Apple’s June notes tie several API changes to building with Xcode 27 or later. As of October 4, 2026, Apple lists Xcode 27 Release Candidate (RC), build 27A266a, dated September 9; the available release listing does not establish whether a final Xcode 27 release has since appeared.
What’s new in SwiftUI?
Apple’s SwiftUI updates span separate June and September 2026 entries. The September update focuses on adaptive arrangements; June adds content-building, state, and interaction changes. Check the relevant notes for availability and toolchain requirements before adopting an API.
September: adaptive arrangements with ArrangementView
ArrangementView provides an adaptive way to arrange primary and secondary content. Related styles and split arrangements let developers configure layout axes and size ratios. These controls are intended for arranging content flexibly rather than prescribing one fixed split layout. Apple describes these additions in its SwiftUI updates.
June: state and content builder changes
When building with Xcode 27 or later, the June notes describe @State using the State() macro in an App, Scene, or View. The same notes introduce ContentBuilder, a type-agnostic content builder that replaces type-specific builders such as ToolbarContentBuilder and CommandsBuilder. The Xcode 27-or-later qualification matters: do not assume these behaviors are available in an earlier toolchain simply because the APIs appear in current documentation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
June: broader reordering and swipe actions
Apple also says drag-and-drop reordering and custom swipe actions can be added to a wider range of containers. The June and September descriptions are collected on Apple’s SwiftUI updates page; consult the API-specific documentation and release notes for the exact containers and constraints relevant to an app.

Project and workspace changes
The June overview highlights faster project creation and options for workspace and project appearance. It also adds a Markdown visual editor, offering an in-Xcode way to work with Markdown documents alongside source code.
Coding intelligence and agent workflows
Apple describes coding intelligence integrated across the workspace, including multiple conversations and agent workflows that can use Xcode guidance and skills. In Xcode 26.3, Apple documented integrations with Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex, as well as access to Xcode capabilities through MCP. Apple’s release notes describe this as agentic coding support; that feature description is not an independent assessment of agent quality or project outcomes. See the Xcode 26.3 release notes.

Other Xcode 26 features
Apple’s Xcode 26 notes also describe local predictive code completion, the #Playground macro, compilation caching, new Instruments for profiling, and enhanced Swift concurrency debugging. These details apply to the documented Xcode 26 release, not automatically to every later Xcode version. Apple’s Xcode 26 release notes provide the release-specific feature and compatibility information.
Which Xcode version includes Swift 6?
Swift 6 is a language and compiler generation, but the useful answer for an app project is the compiler version bundled with the specific Xcode toolchain. Apple’s notes identify Swift 6.2 in Xcode 26 and Swift 6.3 in Xcode 26.4. Use the version that matches the Xcode release you install; do not treat “Swift 6” as one fixed compiler version.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can I use the new SwiftUI APIs with my current Xcode?
It depends on the API and your toolchain. Apple explicitly ties the June State() macro behavior and ContentBuilder changes to building with Xcode 27 or later. The September ArrangementView and related adaptive-layout additions are described in Apple’s September 2026 SwiftUI update, but the cited summary does not specify a minimum Xcode build for every API. Check the API documentation and matching Xcode release notes rather than assuming all current SwiftUI documentation applies to an older installation.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Before changing a production project, verify that the selected toolchain supports the API, then test the project’s packages, build settings, deployment targets, simulators, and continuous-integration environment. A newer development SDK or API does not by itself establish that the app’s deployment target must change; that depends on the API’s availability requirements.
What macOS version do I need for Xcode?
The minimum depends on the exact Xcode release. Apple says Xcode 26 requires macOS Sequoia 15.6 or later, while Xcode 26.4 requires macOS Tahoe 26.2 or later. These requirements are not interchangeable: check the release notes for the precise version you intend to install, especially if you need to retain an older Mac operating system.
Is Xcode 27 generally available?
Apple’s developer release listing dates Xcode 27 RC, build 27A266a, to September 9, 2026. An RC is a release candidate, not proof by itself of a final public release. Apple’s release-notes index also lists Xcode 27 Beta 3 and Xcode 26.6 notes, but the cited listings do not conclusively establish whether a final Xcode 27 release or a later build was available by October 4, 2026. Confirm the current status and download channel on Apple’s developer releases page before planning a rollout.
How to decide whether to update
Choose a toolchain based on the project’s actual requirements, not just the newest feature announcement. Compare these items before updating:
- Release channel and exact build: distinguish a generally available version from a beta or RC, and record the specific build used by developers and CI.
- macOS compatibility: confirm that each development and build machine meets the minimum for that Xcode release.
- Compiler and SDK changes: check the Swift compiler and platform SDK versions bundled with the selected Xcode.
- Required APIs: establish whether a needed SwiftUI feature requires Xcode 27 or later, and check its platform availability.
- Project dependencies and automation: test packages, build scripts, CI images, simulator coverage, and deployment targets before standardizing the new toolchain.
- Release-note issues: read the matching Xcode notes for known issues and changes that could affect the project.
Apple’s release notes establish what a release includes and some compatibility requirements; they cannot determine migration risk for a particular app. Validate the project in a separate branch or equivalent test environment before replacing the toolchain used for shipping builds.
