It runs those games on NVIDIA’s cloud servers, but only supported titles work, and you must own or otherwise have access to each game. If you do own a gaming PC and just want to play away from it, Steam Link streams from that computer—but it still has to be on and running Steam.
Which Android app fits your situation?

Check four things before choosing: whether a local host PC is required, whether your exact game is supported, whether the service works on your Android device and in your country, and whether your connection and input setup are suitable.
GeForce NOW: the option for Steam games without your own PC
GeForce NOW streams games from NVIDIA’s cloud to your Android device. Steam is one of its supported stores, but a Steam purchase alone does not guarantee that a game can be streamed: developers must opt titles into Steam Cloud Play, and NVIDIA’s supported catalog can vary by region. Look up the specific game in NVIDIA’s current game listings before relying on the service.
You must own or purchase a game through a supported store before playing it, unless it is a supported free-to-play title. After linking the relevant accounts, GeForce NOW launches the cloud version of an eligible game; it does not install or run the game on your phone. Valve describes opted-in titles as playable through cloud services “one game at a time, like they can on their local PC.” See Steam Cloud Play documentation for how game eligibility works.

Android and network requirements
NVIDIA’s requirements for Android phones and tablets specify Android 7.0 or later, OpenGL ES 2.0 or higher, and 1 GB of available memory. Its listed bandwidth targets are 15 Mbps for HD up to 60 FPS, 25 Mbps for FHD at 60 FPS, and 35 Mbps for QHD at 120 FPS. These are service requirements, not a promise of a particular result on every connection; some higher resolutions and frame rates depend on membership tier and capable hardware. NVIDIA recommends wired Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi and requires latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center. Check the current GeForce NOW system requirements for details.
Controls
NVIDIA recommends a Bluetooth gamepad. Some games require a controller or wireless keyboard and mouse, while input needs vary by game. A controller is not automatically required for every title. NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW FAQ covers supported devices, accounts, and gameplay requirements.

Steam Link: stream from a PC you already own
Steam Link is useful when the gaming PC is yours but you want to play on an Android phone, tablet, or TV. It sends the game’s video and audio from that computer to your device and sends your controls back. It does not replace the computer: Valve’s setup begins, “Turn on your home PC, launch Steam, and log in.” The host must be available and running Steam while you play.

- Turn on the computer that will host the game and launch Steam.
- Connect your Android device to the same network as the host computer.
- Open the Steam Link app and follow its pairing prompts to connect to the computer.
- Choose a game available on the host computer and play through the app.
Valve recommends a 5 GHz wireless router. It lists the Steam Controller, Xbox One S controller, DualShock 4 on Android 9.0 and newer, Razer Kishi, and Raiju Mobile among supported inputs; other input devices may also work. See Steam Remote Play’s device information for supported clients.

Xbox Cloud Gaming can stream selected free-to-play games and supported titles from Xbox’s own cloud catalog to Android through a supported browser. It does not provide general access to games you bought on Steam. Game, region, device, plan, and network availability vary, so check Xbox’s cloud gaming page and cloud gaming FAQ for current requirements and catalog details.

Xbox supports controllers for cloud play, with touch controls available for select games. Whether the service is a fit depends on the supported Xbox title you want to play, rather than whether it appears in your Steam library.

- No gaming PC, and want a Steam game? Check whether the specific title is listed for GeForce NOW in your region.
- Have a gaming PC, but want to play on Android? Use Steam Link; keep the host computer on, running Steam, and connected to your network.
- Interested in Xbox’s cloud catalog instead? Check the game, browser/device, region, plan, and input requirements on Xbox’s service pages.
- Not sure about controls? Check the requirements for the particular game. A Bluetooth Android game controller may help, but confirm Android support and phone fit before buying.
- Unsure whether your network is adequate? Compare it with the service’s stated bandwidth and latency requirements; actual streaming quality also depends on your device, location, network, server, and game.
