NVIDIA’s official GeForce RTX 3080 unboxing features the Founders Edition and is presented by GeForce Garage host Dwight Lackmann. NVIDIA’s guide depicts the card, two printed guides and a dual PCIe 12-pin power dongle. Contents can differ between packages, so treat that list as what the guide shows—not a guarantee for every retail bundle or used card.
What comes in the box with the RTX 3080 Founders Edition?
NVIDIA’s Founders Edition user guide depicts these items in its unpacking section:
- The GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card
- A Quick Start Guide
- A Support Guide
- An NVIDIA Dual PCIe 12-pin Power Dongle
The guide does not establish that every retail package, region, second-hand card or board-partner model contains the same items. For an actual unboxing, show the contents of the specific package and identify any differences. If a used card is missing its dongle, confirm connector compatibility before sourcing a replacement.
Which RTX 3080 version is shown?
The original GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition has 10 GB of GDDR6X memory. NVIDIA later listed a separate 12 GB RTX 3080 configuration, so don’t apply the 10 GB Founders Edition specifications to that variant.
#1 Best Overall
| Specification | RTX 3080 Founders Edition, 10 GB |
|---|---|
| CUDA cores | 8,704, according to NVIDIA’s 2020 launch announcement |
| Memory | 10 GB GDDR6X, according to NVIDIA’s 2020 launch announcement |
| Length | 285 mm, per NVIDIA’s product-family page |
| Width | 112 mm, per NVIDIA’s product-family page |
| Thickness | Two slots, per NVIDIA’s product-family page |
| Graphics-card power | 320 W, per NVIDIA’s product-family page |
NVIDIA cautions that add-in-card specifications vary by manufacturer. The listed Founders Edition dimensions and power should not be assumed for every RTX 3080 board-partner card. [NVIDIA RTX 3080 product-family page]
What design details are worth showing?
Ampere and RTX features
NVIDIA introduced the RTX 3080 in 2020 as part of its GeForce RTX 30 Series, based on Ampere, which it describes as its second-generation RTX architecture. The company’s launch article lists second-generation ray-tracing cores, third-generation Tensor Cores and GDDR6X memory. These are NVIDIA’s product and architecture descriptions, not independent performance findings. [NVIDIA’s September 2020 RTX 30 Series announcement]
Rank #2
- Powered by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 graphics processing unit (GPU) with a 1710MHz boost clock speed to help meet the needs of demanding games.
- 10GB GDDR6X (320-bit) video memory.
- PCI Express 4.0 and earlier PCI Express 3.0. Offers compatibility with a range of systems.
- Antialiasing and anisotropic filtering delivers striking graphics with incredible realism.
- HDMI and Display Port outputs enable flexible connectivity.
Founders Edition cooling layout
NVIDIA describes the Founders Edition’s cooling design as a dual axial flow-through arrangement. In its explanation, one fan pushes air through the fin stack toward the GPU bracket vents while the other draws air toward the top chassis exhaust. A close-up can make this airflow layout easier to see; it does not establish the card’s temperatures, noise or gaming performance in a particular system.
When did the RTX 3080 launch, and what did it cost?
NVIDIA announced a September 17, 2020 launch and a $699 starting price for the original RTX 3080. That price is a historical launch figure, not a current market price. Andrew Burnes wrote in NVIDIA’s September 1, 2020 launch article: “The new GeForce RTX 3080, launching first on September 17, 2020”. [NVIDIA’s September 2020 announcement]
