In Gears of War: E-Day Horde Siege, you choose a class before each mission. The Coalition’s official overview does not document whether you can switch after a mission starts, so don’t count on an in-mission swap. How do you choose or switch classes in Gears of War: E-Day?
The Coalition says players pick a preferred class before every Horde Siege mission. That confirms when you make the pre-mission choice, but the official overview does not say whether you can change class once the mission begins, after a death or respawn, or at a supply point. These four class descriptions apply to Horde Siege. The same overview describes Versus as a 4v4 mode with equal starting loadouts and no weapon mods; it discusses ranks there rather than Siege classes. That distinction does not establish how every campaign system works.
What does each Horde Siege class do?
Each class has a distinct starting loadout, combat bonus, unlock progression, and Tactical Gear with a timed cooldown. The practical choice is based on your preferred engagement range and whether you want to focus on pressure, precision, or support.

In short, Assault controls space and benefits from cover, Breacher pushes close, Marksman tags and deals precision damage, and Medic restores or revives allies. These are different ways to contribute, not a ranking of the classes.
Does your squad need a Medic or a particular class mix?
No required composition is stated. The Coalition says classes are meant to complement one another but that there is no right way to set up a squad; it even gives four Breachers as a possible lineup. Try a class that suits your preferred range and support style, then adjust the lineup for another mission if you want. The official overview does not designate a mandatory Medic or other role.

How does class progression work?
At launch, each class has 30 progression levels. Completing a Horde Siege mission grants Class XP to advance the class you played. Leveling unlocks loadout weapons and equipment, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, and unique Weapon Mods; key class milestones also increase base health and damage. The Coalition’s progression overview describes Armor Mods as affecting benefits such as health, ammunition reserves, and weapon-swap speed. Tactical Gear Mods can change cooldowns, range, or effects, while Weapon Mods alter how guns behave.
Unlocking and keeping Weapon Mods
A Weapon Mod must first unlock on a class level track, then be purchased with Weapon Parts before it can be equipped. Some Weapon Parts come from class leveling; the developer identifies earning and extracting with parts in Horde Siege as the best way to earn them. Parts collected during a mission are kept only if the squad completes the mission and at least one player extracts successfully.

What carries between classes?
Weapon customization is shared across classes in Horde Siege: mods and cosmetics applied to a weapon for one class also apply when you equip that weapon on another class. The official overview does not say that class levels or class-specific equipment unlocks transfer between classes, so treat those as separate from shared weapon customization.
Are higher difficulties locked behind class levels?
The Coalition recommends Infantry for classes at levels 10–20, Commander for levels 20–30, and Allfather for max-level classes. These are recommendations, not stated access requirements; the developer says higher-difficulty missions yield increased rewards.

No. The Coalition’s Open Beta FAQ, dated August 3, 2026, says Class progression, Player Level, and other Medal progress reset and do not carry to launch. The Beta Player Title, Beta Medal, and Beta Challenge rewards do carry to launch. Progress, rewards, and class progression did carry between the two beta weekends; that beta policy does not establish how progress will work in later seasons or current post-launch account updates.
