The GIGABYTE GA-7VX is a revision 1.0 ATX motherboard for AMD Athlon K7 processors that use the Slot A interface. It pairs VIA’s KX133 chipset with three 3.3V SDRAM DIMM sockets, an AGP 2x/4x slot, and legacy PCI and ISA expansion. The 7VX Series manual covers both GA-7VX and GA-7VX-1, so check the model and revision printed on your board before applying compatibility details.
What CPU does the GA-7VX support?
GIGABYTE specifies a Slot A interface for AMD-K7 Athlon processors with a 200MHz front-side bus. Its manual states a CPU range of 500MHz to 1GHz and faster; that is the documented range, not a guarantee that every Athlon model or speed will work with every board revision or BIOS. The specifications list a selectable bus range of 100 to 143MHz. For a specific CPU upgrade, verify the processor and board revision rather than relying on clock speed alone.
The chipset is VIA KX133, with VIA8371 northbridge and VT82C686A southbridge components. GIGABYTE also lists Creative CT5880 PCI sound. See the GA-7VX revision 1.0 specifications and the 7VX Series manual.
What RAM does the GA-7VX use?
The board has three 168-pin DIMM sockets for 3.3V SDRAM and supports PC133. GIGABYTE lists total memory capacity from 32MB to 1.5GB and module sizes of 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, and 512MB; ECC DIMMs are listed as supported. Confirm a module’s type, voltage, capacity, and compatibility before buying it. The stated maximum is a board specification, not proof that any mix of modules will reach it.

Tom’s Hardware reported that its tested GA-7VX sample did not work with VCM-SDRAM and suggested a BIOS update might address the issue. That is an observation about its sample, not a general rule for every GA-7VX.
Which graphics cards fit the AGP slot?
The GA-7VX provides one AGP slot supporting 2x/4x operation (66/133MHz). The manual identifies support for 3.3V and 1.5V AGP devices, but those details do not establish compatibility with every card described as AGP 2x or 4x. Check the card’s signaling voltage and physical keying against the manual before installing it; do not assume that the slot accepts any AGP card. Tom’s Hardware also noted a plastic snap mounting for AGP 4x graphics cards on the board it reviewed.

What expansion slots and connectors are onboard?
| Interface | GA-7VX specification |
|---|---|
| AGP | One slot, 2x/4x |
| PCI | Five 33MHz slots |
| ISA | One slot |
| AMR | One slot |
| IDE | Two Ultra DMA 33/66 bus-master ports; up to four IDE devices |
The manual also lists a floppy connector, two COM ports, one LPT port, PS/2 keyboard and mouse interfaces, and four USB ports. Optional infrared is mentioned in the manual. GIGABYTE lists an AMI BIOS; the manual says Dual BIOS was optional, so do not assume that a particular board includes it.
Will the GA-7VX fit my case?
The manual gives an ATX form factor measuring 30.6cm by 22cm. Check the case’s motherboard tray and standoff positions as well as the board’s physical condition before installation. Because the 7VX Series manual applies to both GA-7VX and GA-7VX-1, read the actual model and revision markings on the PCB and use the matching documentation for your board.

What to check before restoring or buying one
- Confirm the exact model and revision printed on the motherboard.
- For a processor, establish that it is an AMD-K7 Athlon for Slot A, and check board-specific compatibility rather than extrapolating from the manual’s broad speed range.
- For memory, look for 168-pin 3.3V SDRAM and account for the three-slot, 1.5GB maximum specification; confirm individual DIMMs before purchase.
- For a graphics card, verify AGP signaling voltage and keying against the board manual.
- Inspect the board, connectors, and expansion-slot retention hardware. Specifications describe the design, not the condition of a used example.
GIGABYTE’s product announcement identifies the board as an ATX Slot A KX133 design with AGP 4x, five PCI slots, one ISA slot, four USB ports, and three DIMM sockets supporting PC133 SDRAM: GIGABYTE’s KX133 Athlon motherboard announcement.
