Remove hair and debris from the brushes and wheels, clean filters only as their instructions allow, gently wipe sensors, and keep the dock and charging contacts free of grime. Parts and safe cleaning methods vary by model, so do not assume a filter is washable or a dock component can be rinsed.
Before you start
Check the manual or manufacturer app for your exact model’s maintenance instructions, sensor locations, and removable parts. Set the robot to off before working on it. Have a dry microfiber cloth and, if appropriate for the filter, a soft-bristle brush ready. Avoid pulling parts apart or adding water where the manual does not permit it.
Clean the brushes and brush cavity
- Turn the robot off and remove the roller or side brush using the method shown in its manual.
- Clear wrapped hair, thread, and debris from the brush. Remove debris from the brush cavity and guard as well.
- Inspect the parts for damage or wear, then reinstall them securely.
Replace a part when inspection or the manufacturer’s instructions indicate it is worn or damaged. Roborock says to replace roller brushes every 6 to 12 months, replace guards when their rubber strip wears down, and replace damaged side brushes; those are Roborock recommendations, not a universal schedule for all robot vacuums. Clean the filter without damaging it
- Remove and empty the dustbin according to the manual.
- Tap loose dust from the filter over a bin. If the model’s instructions permit it, use a soft-bristle brush to dislodge remaining particles.
- Wash the filter only if the manual says that exact filter is washable. Let any washable filter dry completely before reinstalling it.
Washability is model-specific. Roborock identifies the Q7 Max+’s E11-rated filter as washable on its Q7 Max+ product page; that does not establish that filters in other models can be washed. Roborock’s maintenance article also gives a two-month filter-replacement recommendation, but use your own model’s manual or app schedule rather than treating that interval as universal.

Wipe the sensors gently
Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth to gently wipe the sensor surfaces. Sensor positions differ by model; Roborock says they may be on the sides and bottom and advises consulting the product manual for their exact locations. Avoid cleaning solutions and abrasive cleaners on sensor covers unless the manufacturer specifically approves them. See Roborock’s sensor-care guidance.
Check the wheels and charging contacts
- Remove hair or thread from wheels and axles, then check that the wheels turn freely.
- Keep the robot’s charging contacts clean. Roborock’s troubleshooting guidance says dirty contacts can interfere with charging and recommends wiping them with a dry cloth. Check your own brand’s manual for its approved contact-cleaning method.

Clean the dock according to its design
Wipe accessible exterior surfaces and keep the dock in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, as Roborock recommends. Before removing a dock component or using water, check the instructions for that exact dock. For example, Roborock describes a detachable, washable base for the Qrevo Slim; this is a feature of that model, not permission to rinse other docks or robot components. How often should you maintain a robot vacuum?
Follow the schedule in your model’s manual or app, and inspect parts sooner if hair or debris builds up or the robot reports a maintenance issue. Roborock’s older general guidance uses weekly upkeep for the S5 as an example; it should not be read as a schedule for every model. Roborock also recommends a two-month filter replacement interval in its maintenance article, while its roller guidance is every 6 to 12 months. Actual needs and schedules depend on the specific robot and its parts. Check the app or manual for maintenance reminders and remaining-part-life indicators. When to replace a brush or filter
Inspect first and buy replacements only when a part is worn, damaged, or due under the model’s maintenance schedule. Confirm the replacement is compatible with your exact robot model. Do not assume that a generic brush or filter fits, or that a replacement filter is washable; verify both fit and care instructions with the manufacturer.
