ASUS announced its VH widescreen LCD monitor series on December 11, 2008, with four named model families: VH192, VH222, VH226, and VH242. The launch announcement described screen sizes from 18.5 to 23.6 inches, a 16:9 aspect ratio, and Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 on models with screens of 21.5 inches or larger.
What ASUS announced
ASUS’s December 11, 2008 announcement presented the VH range as a group of widescreen monitors intended for multimedia use. It highlighted HDMI-equipped models, along with ASUS Splendid Video Intelligence Technology and ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio (ASCR). These are features and performance claims from the manufacturer’s launch material, not results from independent image-quality testing.
The announcement described the monitors as suited to movies and games. It opened with promotional language about ASUS’s “high performance, richly-featured LCD monitors”; that wording was part of ASUS’s announcement, rather than an outside evaluation. HotHardware reproduced the announcement on December 11, 2008.
Screen sizes and resolution
ASUS gave the VH series an overall screen-size range of 18.5 to 23.6 inches and a 16:9 aspect ratio. The announcement specified 1920×1080 Full HD for models with screens of 21.5 inches and larger.

Contemporaneous coverage identifies the VH192 as 18.5 inches, the VH222 and VH226 as 21.5 inches, and the VH242 as 23.6 inches. Those model-specific sizes should be read in the context of the launch-era lineup; the announcement’s broad range and 21.5-inch Full HD threshold are the directly stated series specifications.
The four named model families
| Model family | Launch-era screen size | Resolution information in the announcement |

Why the model suffix matters for connections
“VH222” alone may not identify a monitor’s exact inputs. ASUS support documentation lists a VH242/VH222 Series User Guide, while manual entries distinguish VH222 suffix variants: for example, the VH222H includes HDMI, but HDMI is not established for every VH222 variant. The series announcement’s mention of HDMI-equipped models should not be taken to mean that every model has an HDMI input.
Before connecting a computer or buying a cable, identify the full model number on the monitor and check its own documentation. ASUS’s VH222D support page lists the VH242/VH222 Series User Guide; the English guide entry is dated November 14, 2008. Confirm that the guide and connection details apply to the exact suffix on your unit.

What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The launch material documents what ASUS announced in 2008: the four model families, the series-wide size and aspect ratio, the Full HD threshold, and named image-processing and contrast features. It does not establish independent test results for brightness, color accuracy, response time, or picture quality, nor does it settle the specifications of every suffix or regional version.
