There is no universal winner: compare the same amount of food for the same number of people, then include the costs and effort of getting it.
What do grocery deli wings cost?
USDA Agricultural Marketing Service’s weekly report for the week beginning March 23, 2026 recorded 496 advertised offers for conventional prepared bone-in fried or baked wings. Prices ranged from $7.99 to $9.99 per pound, with an average advertised price of $8.60 per pound. That is a snapshot of grocery ads for one reporting week, not a guaranteed price at a particular store or a comparison with restaurant menus. USDA Agricultural Marketing Service weekly report.
Retail listings observed October 4, 2026 illustrate how much local prices and product details can differ:

These are retailer examples, not a national price list. Prices, stock, and ordering options may differ by store, location, date, and channel. In particular, an online listing does not guarantee that hot wings can be reserved for pickup.

What does a restaurant wing deal include?
One chain example observed October 4, 2026 was Buffalo Wild Wings’ online $21.99 bundle: 20 bone-in wings, large fries, and four dips. The chain says prices may be higher in some states; taxes and fees are extra. This is one offer, not a standard restaurant price. Check the local menu and checkout total. Buffalo Wild Wings bundles.
A bundle’s price is not directly comparable with grocery wings sold by the pound. It includes sides and dips, and a count of wings does not establish the amount of meat or food each diner will get. Compare the whole meal you intend to buy, not just the headline price.

How to compare the real cost fairly
- Set the meal target. Decide how many people are eating and roughly how many wings each person wants. Use that same target for both options.
- Check the grocery item. Confirm whether the wings are hot or cold, sold by weight or piece, and available at the store you plan to visit. If priced by weight, estimate the final total using the local price per pound rather than assuming a listing’s displayed price is the checkout amount.
- Check the local restaurant offer. Separate the cost of wings from any included sides or dips, then account for taxes, delivery or service fees, and any tip that applies to your order.
- Compare equivalent ordering methods. Compare pickup with pickup to judge convenience on equal terms. If one choice is delivered, weigh the time saved against delivery and service charges and confirm service is available at your address.
Rosauers’ estimate of about 0.25 pound per wing can help illustrate a possible weight-to-count conversion, but it is a retailer estimate, not a universal wing size. Do not treat a grocery price per pound as a per-wing price without stating the assumed piece weight; actual wing size and what diners eat vary.

Convenience depends on the food’s temperature, where it is available, and how you plan to collect it. Grocery listings may support pickup, but some hot deli items are in-store only, and the final price may depend on the weighed amount. That can work well if the store is nearby, the wings are ready when you arrive, and you are already making a grocery trip.

Restaurant ordering may offer pickup or delivery, depending on location. Delivery can save a separate trip, but fees and coverage vary; check the restaurant’s options for your address and review the full checkout total. Pickup avoids delivery fees but still requires a trip to the restaurant.

- Choose restaurant wings when a current local bundle’s wings, sides, and dips fit the meal, or its pickup or delivery option saves enough effort to justify the total.
