MSI Afterburner 4.6.5, covered on April 19, 2023, added support for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40-series and AMD Radeon RX 7900-series graphics cards, along with monitoring and overlay changes. It was a 2023 stable release, not the newest version now: MSI’s current download page lists 4.6.6 as Final and 4.6.7 as Beta.

What did Afterburner 4.6.5 add?

The headline change was support for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40-series and AMD Radeon RX 7900-series GPUs. HotHardware’s April 19, 2023 report also listed hardware-specific voltage control, Radeon board-power monitoring, Intel Arc monitoring, and experimental support for newer desktop CPUs.

  • NVIDIA: Voltage control for GA103 GPUs and GDDR6X-based GeForce RTX 3060 Ti cards.
  • AMD: Total-board-power monitoring for Radeon RX 7900 cards.
  • Intel: Intel Arc GPU support in Afterburner’s hardware-monitoring module.
  • CPUs: Experimental support for Intel 13th-generation Core processors and AMD Ryzen 7000 processors.

These are support and monitoring additions, not evidence of a particular performance gain. The report did not provide benchmark results.

Could Afterburner 4.6.5 tune Intel Arc GPUs?

No. The 2023 report says Intel Arc was supported for monitoring, while overclocking and tuning were not supported in that release because of a limitation in Intel’s hardware-control API for x64 applications. Seeing Arc readings in the monitoring module did not mean Afterburner could change Arc clock or voltage settings.

What changed in the curve editor and overlays?

The release notes described in the report raised the V/F curve editor’s default clock limit to 3.5 GHz. That is an editor limit, not a measured clock speed or a promise that a GPU can run stably at that frequency.

Afterburner 4.6.5 also bundled RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS) 7.3.4. HotHardware characterized its change list as containing more than 100 compatibility enhancements, changes, and new features. The update included an upgraded OverlayEditor and DesktopOverlayHost, which could display an overlay on the Windows desktop or on a small screen installed inside a PC case.

How does 4.6.5 fit into the release timeline?

HotHardware described 4.6.5 as the first new stable release in years, following a stable version that dated to 2019; enthusiasts had used beta builds in the meantime. That describes the situation reported in April 2023, not the current release status.

Later beta features are not part of 4.6.5

Tom’s Hardware reported on February 11, 2026 that Afterburner 4.6.7 beta added support for MSI’s RTX 5090 Lightning and a PSU monitoring plugin associated with GPU Safeguard. Its report tied GPU Safeguard+ pop-up functionality and emergency power-limit behavior to MSI MPG Ai1300TS and MPG Ai1600TS power supplies. These are not 4.6.5 features and should not be assumed to work with other PSUs.

In a July 13, 2026 report, Tom’s Hardware said a voltage/frequency curve heatmap was planned for 4.6.7 beta 4 and that no official non-beta release with the heatmap had been announced at that time. That was a dated beta update, not confirmation that the feature is in a final release today.

What can you use Afterburner for?

MSI’s May 21, 2024 guide describes Afterburner as a utility for monitoring GPU frequency, VRAM frequency, voltage, and temperature; adjusting core and memory frequencies, power and temperature limits; saving profiles; using OC Scanner; displaying on-screen monitoring; and setting custom fan behavior.

For the on-screen display, MSI says RivaTuner Statistics Server must be installed and running. MSI also notes that laptop GPUs cannot use custom fan curves because the fan settings are preset by the manufacturer in BIOS.

Where should you download it, and what are the risks?

MSI says Afterburner is free and can be used with graphics cards from all brands. For a legitimate download, use MSI’s site or Guru3D; MSI warns users about phishing sites posing as Afterburner download pages. Avoid unofficial mirrors.

Overclocking changes can cause hardware damage. MSI’s guide says damage caused during overclocking is not covered by warranty, so change settings cautiously and understand the risks before applying them.
