It is a premium compact built around one focal length—not an interchangeable-lens camera.
Sony RX1R III specs: what changed
The RX1R III, model DSC-RX1RM3, pairs Sony’s 61MP effective full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor with its BIONZ XR image processor. Its lens is a fixed ZEISS Sonnar T* 35mm F2. Sony says the lens-and-sensor assembly is adjusted at micron scale to optimize their alignment. These are manufacturer specifications, not an independent assessment of image quality.

Autofocus adds Sony’s AI-based real-time subject recognition. Sony says it can recognize human body and head position using pose estimation. That describes the camera’s recognition capability; it does not establish how it performs against other cameras in particular shooting conditions.
What the fixed 35mm lens means
The camera’s central trade-off is also its defining design choice: the 35mm F2 lens is built in, so changing focal length means moving yourself or cropping the image rather than swapping lenses. That suits photographers who want a full-frame camera around a single, familiar perspective, but it is less adaptable than a system camera for subjects that call for a wider, longer or different lens.

For a meaningful comparison, check each model’s official specifications for sensor resolution, lens, autofocus, viewfinder and screen, battery and video features, then compare current regional prices. Most importantly, decide whether the fixed 35mm view works for your photography; a resolution increase does not compensate for a focal length that does not suit your subjects.
