A USB hub, webcam, and microphone are three practical additions that can make a PC easier to connect, use for video calls, and record audio with. The evidence available here supports these three categories—not a verified list of seven specific devices—so this guide focuses on what each can do and what to check before buying.
1. USB hub: add the connections your PC is missing
A USB hub can add ports for peripherals and memory cards when a computer has too few connections. Before choosing one, check its host connector, port mix, power requirements, and whether it supports any display output you need. A hub cannot add a capability that the computer’s own connection does not support.
What to check before buying
- Host connection: Confirm the hub connects to a port on your computer and that the connector and supported features match.
- Ports: Count the devices you intend to attach. Distinguish ports for data from a host connection or power input.
- Power: Check whether the hub needs its own adapter and whether pass-through charging meets your needs.
- Card readers and display output: Choose SD or microSD readers if useful, and verify display support against both the hub and computer specifications.
- Data rates: Treat advertised interface speeds as maximums, not guaranteed transfer performance; results depend on the host, cable, and connected device.
As one product example—not a tested recommendation—RØDE lists its RØDE Hub with six USB-C device connections, one USB-A connection, SD and microSD readers, and up to 60W pass-through charging. The manufacturer specifies USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports at up to 10Gbps and a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port at up to 5Gbps. These are product specifications, not promised real-world speeds. RØDE Hub specifications.
2. USB webcam: add a camera for calls and recording
A dedicated USB webcam can provide a camera for video meetings, streaming, or recording, and some models also include a microphone or privacy shutter. Compare resolution, frame rate, field of view, connector, operating-system support, and privacy features for the exact model you are considering.

Match the camera to your setup
- Resolution and frame rate: Check what the webcam offers and what your calling or recording app can use.
- Field of view and placement: A wider view captures more of the scene, so consider your desk layout and framing.
- Connector and compatibility: Verify the webcam’s connector and your computer’s available ports, along with the manufacturer’s OS requirements. Do not assume all webcams use the same connection.
- Privacy and audio: Look for a shutter if you want a physical way to cover the lens, and check whether a built-in microphone suits your needs.
For example, Logitech lists its BRIO 305 with 1080p at 30fps or 720p at 30fps, a 70-degree diagonal field of view, a built-in noise-reducing microphone, an integrated privacy shutter, and USB-C plug-and-play connectivity. Logitech states that it is compatible with Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS subject to its requirements, and certified for Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, and Works With Chromebook. These claims apply to this model; check the BRIO 305 specifications before purchase. Logitech’s webcam and headset connection guide shows that connection requirements vary among webcam models.
3. USB microphone: use an external audio input
A USB microphone is an option for clearer control over audio input during calls, podcasting, or streaming. Choose according to your intended use and verify connector compatibility and setup requirements on the exact product page. Depending on the model, you may also want controls, headphone monitoring, a stand, or particular included accessories.

Sennheiser describes its Profile as a USB-C microphone for streaming, podcasting, and video calls, and says setup requires no drivers or software.
