Valve describes Dota 2 as a “5v5 team clash.” The cited official information does not establish Deadlock’s current team format or objectives, so a direct comparison of team size, lanes, or win conditions would go beyond what is confirmed here.
Heroes and build choices
Valve’s Dota 2 page describes a diverse roster of “over a hundred” heroes. That is the page’s current wording, not an independently audited count. Deadlock is still experimental, and its roster or systems may change during development; the official information cited here does not support a dependable roster-size or build-system comparison.

Strategy and learning
Valve presents Dota 2 as a game with strategies and tactics to discover. That supports describing it as strategically layered, but it does not establish a measured learning curve or prove that one game is easier than the other. Deadlock’s early-development state also means its demands may shift as the game changes.
Availability and stability
Dota 2 is listed as free-to-play on its official site. Deadlock, in the official access description cited above, is limited to invitations through playtesters. These are different kinds of availability: a free-to-play listing does not establish every platform or regional detail, while an invite-limited playtest is not general access.

Which game should you choose?
- Choose Dota 2 if you want the established option described by Valve as a free-to-play 5v5 action RTS, with a large hero roster and strategic play.
- Consider Deadlock if you have access through a playtester and are comfortable with experimental gameplay, temporary art, and changes during development.
- Wait before deciding if you need unrestricted access or want to compare stable, fully settled feature sets. Deadlock’s availability and development status make a definitive one-to-one verdict premature.
