OpenPayd is the closest fit in this comparison when the requirement centers on business or customer accounts, virtual IBANs, foreign exchange (FX) and payouts. Wise Platform is worth evaluating for its documented embedded, enterprise and correspondent models for cross-border payments. Airwallex is a stronger candidate when accepting customer payments, checkout or marketplace seller flows are central. None is established as a like-for-like replacement for every OpenPayd service, market or funds flow.
Start with the funds flow, not the provider name
“Payment infrastructure” can mean several different things: holding or managing a company’s own funds, providing accounts to customers, accepting payments from customers, converting currencies, or distributing proceeds to sellers. Those jobs can involve different products, contractual arrangements and compliance responsibilities. A provider that supports checkout and seller payouts, for example, is not automatically a substitute for an account and virtual-IBAN service.
Before comparing vendors, map the funds flow: who sends money, who receives it, whose funds are being managed, where the money needs to go, and whether the platform itself or its customers are the account holders. That description will make a provider’s stated operating model more meaningful than a broad claim to support global payments.
How the three platforms differ
| Provider | Documented strengths | Best reason to evaluate it | What the reviewed public material does not establish |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenPayd | Accounts, named virtual IBANs, payments, traditional FX and digital-asset trading; its marketplace material also describes global payouts. It advertises a REST API, dashboard and sandbox. | Your product needs embedded business or customer accounts, virtual IBANs, FX and payouts, or a mix of traditional and digital-asset services. | Full country-by-service availability, comparable pricing and contract-level service commitments. |
| Wise Platform | Three stated partner models—embedded, enterprise and correspondent—alongside transfers, balances and card functions. Its developer homepage advertises accounts in 160+ countries and receipts in 40+ currencies; these are Wise claims, not a guarantee of eligibility for a particular business or jurisdiction. | Your use case maps to one of Wise’s partner models and requires international transfers, balances, receiving funds or cards. | Eligibility and precise capabilities for a particular business, market and contract; a generic country or currency count does not answer those questions. |
| Airwallex | Its payments page describes acceptance of 160+ payment methods, local-currency pricing, like-for-like settlement, hosted checkout, APIs and mobile SDKs. For platforms and marketplaces it describes connected-account onboarding and compliance workflows, fund-flow management, and routing or splitting seller proceeds after platform fees. | Customer pay-ins, checkout, payment-method coverage or marketplace seller settlement are the main problem to solve. | Parity with every OpenPayd account, virtual-IBAN, FX or digital-asset requirement; the reviewed page emphasizes payments and settlement. |
The figures in the table are not directly comparable: Wise’s country and currency figures describe advertised account and receipt reach, while Airwallex’s method count describes payment-method acceptance. Neither number proves availability for your business or required flow.

OpenPayd: account-and-payment infrastructure
OpenPayd presents itself as API-led financial infrastructure for digital businesses. Its business-as-a-service description frames accounts, payments, FX and related banking services as capabilities a company can integrate into its own portal or systems. Its marketplace page lists accounts, virtual IBANs, FX and global payouts for companies making or receiving international payments. The homepage also describes a payments dashboard, REST API and sandbox for account and payment testing.
OpenPayd says it processes more than $300 billion annually. The reviewed homepage displayed no publication year for that claim, so treat it as an undated vendor statement rather than an independently audited or dated statistic. The precise contracting entity can depend on location and service; confirm the entity and product availability for the intended market.
Wise Platform: choose the partner model first
Wise separates its platform offering into three models. Embedded partners are regulated financial institutions and fintech platforms that offer Wise services within their own products. Enterprise partners use the Wise API to manage their own funds, such as paying employees or vendors. Correspondent partners are regulated financial institutions using Wise infrastructure to process cross-border payments for their own customers.

The model affects onboarding and authorization, as well as transfer, balance and card functions. Wise’s documentation also describes partner verification and customer KYC/KYB requirements; who performs due diligence depends on the arrangement. Identify the intended model early and confirm the allocation of those responsibilities with Wise.

Airwallex: pay-ins and marketplace flows
Airwallex’s reviewed payments page is particularly relevant if a platform needs to accept payments and then manage proceeds for sellers. It describes accepting more than 160 payment methods, local-currency pricing, like-for-like settlement, hosted checkout, APIs and mobile SDKs, along with fraud and dispute-management features. For platforms and marketplaces, it describes connected accounts, onboarding and compliance workflows, and the ability to split proceeds or route funds to sellers after platform fees.

Airwallex’s 160+ payment-method figure is a provider claim on an undated product page; it does not measure the same thing as Wise’s country or currency figures. The reviewed Airwallex page does not establish equivalence across OpenPayd’s account, virtual-IBAN, FX and digital-asset functions. Check those requirements individually rather than inferring them from its payments capabilities.
Check these requirements before shortlisting
1. Define the funds flow and account holder
State whether the provider will manage your company’s treasury, provide financial accounts to your customers, process payments for regulated clients, accept merchant payments, or pay marketplace sellers. For Wise, identify whether the enterprise, embedded or correspondent model fits. For OpenPayd and Airwallex, map the specific advertised capabilities to the actual flow rather than treating platform-oriented language as proof of identical products.
2. Confirm geography and contracting entity
Ask which countries and currencies are supported for the exact service—not just for the provider generally—and which legal entity would contract with your business. Ask about local restrictions and whether the required account, payment or payout feature is enabled in each target market. “Global” marketing language does not establish worldwide availability.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
3. Assign regulatory and compliance responsibilities
For the intended flow, establish who performs customer due diligence, who holds or safeguards funds, which party is responsible for payment obligations, and what licenses are relevant. Wise’s documentation explicitly discusses KYC/KYB and partner responsibilities. OpenPayd identifies separate entities for different services, making it important to verify the relevant entity for your location and product. Do not assume that another provider’s workflow or allocation of responsibility will match either arrangement.
4. Specify account, rail and FX requirements
Write down the exact features needed by market: named or virtual IBANs, pooled or segregated account structures, currencies, local payment rails, international transfers, receipts, FX and payout speed. OpenPayd advertises virtual IBANs and multi-currency accounts; Wise documents multi-currency balances and transfers; Airwallex’s reviewed page emphasizes payment acceptance and like-for-like settlement. Those descriptions are starting points for verification, not substitutes for a market-by-market capability matrix.
5. If sellers or checkout are involved, test the full payment lifecycle
Compare supported payment methods and acquiring coverage alongside connected-account onboarding, split payments, settlement controls, payout routing, disputes and fraud workflows. Airwallex’s payments page describes capabilities across these areas. Confirm that the precise countries, currencies and seller types you need are covered; method counts alone do not show whether a specific payment route will work for your merchants.

6. Validate integration and operating commitments
Review API documentation and sandbox access, then ask about webhooks, reconciliation, support, uptime commitments, migration requirements and service-level remedies. OpenPayd advertises a REST API and sandbox. The reviewed public material does not establish comparable contractual service levels across the three providers, so request the relevant terms directly.
7. Compare commercial offers on the same assumptions
Request quotes using the same jurisdiction, transaction mix, volumes, currency conversions, payout destinations, account model, support tier and compliance scope. The reviewed official pages do not provide comparable current pricing, so they cannot support a reliable “cheapest” ranking. A quote that omits a required service or assigns different compliance work is not an apples-to-apples comparison.

- Keep OpenPayd in consideration when embedded business or customer accounts, virtual IBANs, FX, payouts or a combination of traditional and digital-asset services are central. Verify the relevant service and regulated entity in each target geography.
- Evaluate Wise Platform when the requirement fits its documented embedded, enterprise or correspondent model for international transfers, balances, receiving funds or cards. Confirm the integration model and KYC/KYB allocation for your arrangement.
- Evaluate Airwallex when global pay-in acceptance, local payment methods, checkout, like-for-like settlement or marketplace seller flows are central. Confirm whether its accounts, rails and regional availability match the specific use case.
This is a practical shortlist, not a ranking of the whole market. The reviewed official pages do not establish that any provider is universally superior or a like-for-like replacement across every product and country combination.
