Lumina is an open-source Raspberry Pi-oriented project that listens for the wake word “Lumina,” turns spoken prompts into AI-generated artwork, and displays the result full-screen on a connected TV or display. It is the DevMiser project on GitHub—not another app or product with the same name. Its published code configures OpenAI’s dall-e-3 image-generation model; the repository also documents voice commands for saving artwork. View the Lumina project on GitHub.
What Lumina does
Lumina combines voice input, an OpenAI image-generation call, and full-screen image display. In the published Python source, the program listens for the “Lumina” wake word, records microphone audio, recognizes the speech, and sends ordinary recognized speech to its image-generation routine. The code configures the OpenAI client to use dall-e-3, then resizes the generated image to the detected display dimensions before showing it. These are behaviors documented in the source code, not independently tested performance claims. Review Lumina.py.
What you can do with voice commands
Request artwork
After the wake word, speak a prompt for the artwork you want. The code routes recognized speech to the image-generation routine, then presents the resulting image full-screen on the connected display.
Save the current image
The README documents a February 23, 2024 update that added voice saving. When the screen indicates “Listening,” say “Save it” or “Keep it” to save the current artwork as a PNG in /home/pi/Lumina. The filename uses the prompt phrase and date. See the project README.

Control the display or exit
The source code also defines voice controls for turning the display on or off and closing the program. The reviewed documentation does not provide a complete command list for these controls, so check the current source and instructions for exact phrasing.
What you need to build it
The project is designed around Raspberry Pi hardware: its repository includes a Raspberry Pi wake-word model, and its code uses the /home/pi/Lumina directory. It also needs microphone input and a connected screen or TV to display the artwork. The repository includes a PDF instruction file and enclosure STL files. Check the repository for project files.

The reviewed repository pages do not establish a specific supported Raspberry Pi model, a complete parts list, a microphone type, or broad compatibility with TVs and operating systems. Before buying hardware, consult the project’s current instructions and confirm that your chosen Pi, audio input, and display connection are supported. The presence of enclosure files alone does not establish which components fit or are required.
OpenAI API access and billing
Lumina’s published source configures an OpenAI API client for image generation, so a builder should check the current API account, access, and billing requirements before setup. The README contains a note dated March 26, 2024 saying that OpenAI had introduced pre-purchased credits for most API users and that a request could error without them. That is a dated project note, not confirmation of OpenAI’s current billing policy. Read the README’s billing note.

Who Lumina is for
Lumina is a fit for someone comfortable assembling and configuring a Raspberry Pi project who wants to generate and display artwork with voice input. It is not established by the reviewed sources as a ready-to-install TV app, a turnkey kit, or a project guaranteed to work with a particular Pi model. Its value depends on your willingness to follow the project files, provide compatible audio and display hardware, and configure API access.
