Use navigator.vibrate() from a user-triggered event to request a short vibration: pass a number for one pulse or an array for alternating vibration and pause intervals. Check that the method exists, provide a way to stop a pattern, and treat vibration as optional because browser support and device settings vary.
Trigger a vibration from a button
Attach the call to a user action such as a button click. This is more reliable than trying to start vibration automatically: the API requires user activation, and the current W3C draft also says the call returns false when the document is not visible.

</script>The feature check avoids calling a missing method, but it does not confirm that a device has vibration hardware or that its settings allow vibration. The MDN Navigator.vibrate() reference documents the method and its behavior.
Choose a vibration pattern
Durations are in milliseconds. A single number requests one pulse; an array alternates vibration and pause durations, beginning with vibration.

A trailing pause is unnecessary because vibration ends when the final pulse ends. Implementations may limit or truncate patterns, so do not assume a long sequence will run exactly as requested.
Stop or replace a running pattern
Call navigator.vibrate(0) to cancel. An empty array or an array containing only zeros is also a documented cancellation form. Calling navigator.vibrate() with a new pattern stops the existing pattern and starts the new one.

Check support and interpret the result carefully
Browser support is uneven. MDN labels the API “Limited availability” and “not Baseline.” The W3C Vibration API Editor’s Draft reports implementation in Chromium-based browsers, records WebKit’s opposition to the specification, and notes that Firefox removed its implementation in version 129. MDN’s Navigator compatibility data lists Safari as unsupported and includes user-gesture and cross-origin iframe restrictions for Chromium versions.
Before depending on the feature, test the actual browser, operating system, embedding context, and device. Silent or Do Not Disturb settings, platform vibration controls, or missing hardware can prevent a physical effect even when the method exists.

The method returns a boolean, but that value is not dependable proof that someone felt a vibration. Invalid parameters can return false; accepted calls can still have no physical effect, and patterns may be constrained by the implementation.
Use vibration as optional feedback
The W3C draft defines this as an API for simple tactile feedback, not fine-grained haptic control. It states: “This API is not meant to be used as a generic notification mechanism.” Keep patterns brief and purposeful, and use visible or audible feedback as well whenever the information matters. Never make vibration the sole way to communicate an essential status.
