These seven less-familiar apps target different workday frictions: keeping tasks and references together, planning around meetings, capturing email as work, or getting started on one task. They are discovery options, not a ranked test or a guarantee of better output. Start with the problem you want to solve, then check each app’s current availability and terms.
Choose an app by the friction you want to remove
“Uncommon” here is a discovery angle, not a measured popularity ranking. The apps below were surfaced for distinct stated purposes; there is no comparative testing or measured productivity outcome behind this selection. Product descriptions are attributed to their vendors.
- Work is scattered across tasks, calendar, and references: consider Productivities.
- Meetings disrupt your plan: consider Fokus.
- You want a compact, keyboard-led task workflow: consider Clara.
- You want tasks, notes, and a journal together: consider Ordo.
- Incoming email needs to become planned work: consider Plate.
- Digital distractions interrupt focus sessions: consider Superfocus.
- Starting a task is the main hurdle: consider tavi.
Seven apps, matched to a workflow
Productivities: connect work context
Productivities calls itself a “Local-first personal work operating system.” The company describes a system combining tasks, calendar, and knowledge, with capture for thoughts and references, daily planning, project spaces, and configurable AI connections. That scope may suit someone who wants work context in one place rather than split among separate tools. “Local-first” is the vendor’s description; it should not be taken as an independently audited privacy guarantee.
Fokus: plan around meetings
Fokus says it reads your calendar, builds a schedule around meetings, and rebuilds that schedule when the day changes. It also lists tasks, calendar, notes, and objectives in one workspace. The company describes the product as being in public beta and lists desktop, web, mobile, and browser-extension access; beta status and platform availability can change.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Clara: use a keyboard-led task and focus workflow
Clara describes a minimal interface for tasks, focus sessions, notes, and analytics, plus a command palette for actions such as creating a task or starting a focus session. It is a candidate for people who prefer a compact interface and keyboard-oriented controls—not evidence that those features improve performance.
Ordo: keep tasks, notes, and journaling together
Ordo describes its workspace as a replacement for a task manager, note-taking app, and daily journal. That combination may appeal if maintaining separate lists, notes, and daily reflections feels fragmented. Dates shown on Ordo’s site for posts are article dates, not evidence of when the app launched.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Plate: turn the day and email into planned work
Plate describes time-based zones for organizing the day and instant thought capture. It also offers an email-to-task feature that the company says parses an email’s subject, body, and due dates. That is a vendor-stated capability; its accuracy has not been independently assessed here, so review created tasks before relying on them.
Superfocus: assemble tools for a focus session
Superfocus describes a set of focus features that includes music, app and website blocking across devices, goals, time blocking, calendar sync, and daily feedback. It may suit someone looking for several focus controls in one service. Blocking and music are tools to try, not a promise that every person will concentrate better with them.

A practical way to choose
- Name the bottleneck. For a week, note whether lost context, meeting changes, email, distractions, or task initiation is the issue you encounter most.
- Choose one candidate. Match that friction to the workflow above rather than adopting several new systems at once.
- Check the current terms and fit. Confirm availability, price, data handling, and export options before placing important work in the app.
- Try it on low-risk work. Use a small project or a few days of tasks first. Check whether the app reduces the specific friction without adding more upkeep.
