LG Display says it has begun mass production of a laptop LCD that can adjust its refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. The panel is slated for Dell’s flagship premium XPS lineup, but LG’s March 23, 2026 announcement does not identify the exact XPS models or configurations that will include it.
What does a 1–120Hz laptop display mean?
Refresh rate is how many times a screen is redrawn each second. LG says its Oxide 1Hz LCD automatically lowers the rate to 1Hz when content is largely static and raises it as high as 120Hz when the screen changes frequently. In practical terms, reading a page or checking email can use the low-refresh mode, while faster-moving content can use a higher rate. LG cites ebooks and research papers as static examples, and movies, sports and games as examples for the higher-refresh mode. The company has not published motion thresholds or described whether users can override the automatic behavior. LG Display’s announcement calls this the world’s first mass-produced laptop LCD using its Oxide 1Hz technology.
Which Dell XPS models have the new screen?
LG names Dell’s flagship premium XPS lineup as the recipient of the panel and says Dell unveiled new XPS models featuring it at CES 2026. The announcement does not give model numbers, regional configurations or a complete list of eligible SKUs. It therefore establishes a relationship to the XPS line, not that every XPS—or every configuration of a named model—has the display.

Before buying, check the exact configuration’s display specification with Dell or the retailer. Compare its refresh-rate range alongside resolution, brightness, contrast, color coverage and independently measured battery life; the refresh-rate range alone does not describe overall display quality. LG’s separate Neo:LED product page lists a 16-inch panel at 2560×1600, 400 nits, 2,000:1 contrast and 30–120Hz variable refresh rate, but those figures belong to that different product and should not be attributed to the Oxide 1Hz XPS panel. Does a 1Hz screen improve laptop battery life?
LG’s Korean announcement claims an improvement of at least 48% in battery usage. That figure is a manufacturer claim; the announcement does not provide enough test detail to establish a 48% increase in whole-laptop runtime, and it is not an independent test result. Battery life depends on the entire laptop and how it is used, so buyers should look for testing of the specific XPS configuration rather than treating the panel claim as a runtime guarantee.
LG also says its Carbon Emission Reduction Project aims to reduce use-phase carbon emissions by up to 10%. This is a stated project aim, not an independently verified reduction caused by this panel.

When is LG’s 1Hz OLED laptop display coming?
In the March 2026 announcement, LG said it was preparing to begin mass production of an OLED panel using the same technology from 2027. That is a future plan announced by LG, not confirmation that OLED production began or that an OLED laptop is available.
