Choose the Community Center if you enjoy collecting items across Stardew Valley’s activities and want bundle rewards, friendship rewards, and a restored town landmark. Choose Joja if you would rather earn gold and buy fixed upgrades than track down requested items. Joja membership costs 5,000g and permanently turns the Community Center into a Joja Warehouse, so treat it as a save-wide route choice—not a reversible shortcut.
How the two routes differ
The routes deliver the same broad town-improvement outcome through different kinds of work. The Community Center asks you to source and donate items; Joja asks you to pay set prices for development projects. Neither is inherently better: the right choice depends on whether you prefer gathering and rewards or direct purchases.

What you do on the Community Center route
Complete bundles by sourcing requested items
Bundles are shown on the Community Center’s golden scrolls. Requested goods draw on different parts of the game, including farming, fishing, foraging, mining, and artisan production. Each completed bundle grants an individual reward; finishing every bundle in a room grants a larger room reward. The standard arrangement has six rooms and 30 bundles, while the save setup can enable remixed bundles. See the Community Center guide and bundle list and rewards for details.
Restore the Center and earn its completion rewards
Completing all bundles restores the building and triggers a reopening ceremony. The ceremony grants the Local Legend achievement and Stardew Hero Trophy. The Community Center path also provides a Friendship reward that the Joja route does not.

What you do on the Joja route
Pay membership, then purchase developments
Buy Joja membership from Morris for 5,000g. This permanently replaces the Community Center with a Joja Warehouse. After that, use the Joja Community Development Form to purchase the five projects below. The development fees total 135,000g; including membership, the full route costs 140,000g.
| Development | Cost | What it provides |
|---|---|---|
| Bus repair | 40,000g | Repairs the bus. |
| Quarry bridge | 25,000g | Repairs the bridge to the quarry. |
| Glittering boulder removal | 20,000g | Enables panning. |
| Minecart repair | 15,000g | Repairs the minecarts. |
| Greenhouse | 35,000g | Provides the greenhouse. |
Only one development can be purchased per day, and a purchased project is completed after you sleep. The fixed prices spare you the task of finding specific bundle items, but they still require the listed gold and do not let you buy several upgrades in a single day. The Joja Community Development Form guide lists the projects and mechanics.
Know what bundle progress carries over
If you finish all bundles in a Community Center room before buying membership, that room’s corresponding development remains complete. Partial progress in a room does not discount an unfinished Joja project; you pay its full listed price.
Recommended Free Tools
Separate the included reward from the later purchase
After completing the development form, you receive a Soda Machine. An Auto-Petter becomes available for purchase at JojaMart for 50,000g; it is not included with the form’s completion. That option can matter if animal-care automation is a priority.

- You’ve inherited your grandfather’s old farm plot in Stardew Valley. Armed with hand-me-down tools and a few coins, you set out to begin your new life.
- Now with Multiplayer! Invite 1-3 players to join you in the valley! Players can work together to build a thriving farm, share resources, and build relationships with townspeople or each other.
- New Single Player Content! Including the new Winter Market Festival, more collectibles, added character cut-scenes and even hats for your horse!
Which route fits your priorities?
- Choose the Community Center if collecting and exploring are part of the fun, you want bundle and Friendship rewards, or restoring the town landmark is appealing.
- Choose Joja if you prefer turning earned gold into defined improvements, want to avoid bundle checklists, or value the later option to buy an Auto-Petter.
- If you are already working on bundles but undecided, wait before buying membership. Membership is permanent, and unfinished room progress will not lower a project’s price.
Joja avoids item-sourcing requirements, but that alone does not establish that it is always faster: you still need 140,000g for membership and all five developments, and can buy only one project per day. No route-specific completion-time comparison or popularity figure is established by the cited sources, so choose based on the kind of play you want rather than a promise that one route is universally more efficient.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The story is not simply “good” versus “bad”
Community Center completion emphasizes restoration; the Joja route replaces the building with a warehouse while delivering improvements through paid projects. In a 2025 report on an interview with PC Gamer, creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone said the contrast was “a little bit too on the nose” and added, “Nothing is ever that black and white in reality.” The comments offer useful context, but the practical decision still comes down to whether you prefer gathering requested goods or paying fixed costs. GamesRadar’s May 3, 2025 report has the full context.
